Went here for a trip out to go on the pedalos and take in a spot of lunch. It's a busy place, but not particularly overcrowded. Plenty of choice for dining and some nice souvenir shops.

Beautiful view, nice and quite stop for a refreshment on the way. Tasty fruit juice and iced coffee , and a snack or lunch by the lake. Take photos and row in the lake , buy some souvenirs.

The guy who looked after our villa suggested we go here. What great advice! The lake is beautifully situated with the mountains as a backdrop and the water is crystal clear. Going in the afternoon is recommended as the crowds have gone. Large selection of...More

Evidently, this is a special place for the locals as it's the only fresh water lake on the island of Crete ... and I can understand why Lake Kournas so special since there is very little water on the island.

I really liked this place! I arrived pretty late (around 3 pm) and took catamaran spending 2 hours on lake. Water is fresh and crystal clear, also warm and great to swim in. I seen small turtles near the bushes, there were also ducks and...More

This is a beautiful location, the lake with the mountains around it is very picturesque and as the only fresh water lake on the island it's worth a trip but..... It's very 'rustic'. There are some umbrellas and chairs but they are all old, first...More

Best bet is to get a bus from Chania to Georgopolis and then a cab from there, much cheaper. Not sure if the turtles are actually not tortoises, but well worth a visit anyway!
