Very interesting look back in time when Icelanders had to make due with whatever they could find. They built this complex of homes and work buildings mostly out of turf, and they are very complex. A very interesting 45 minutes to an hour exploring these structures. Glad we went!

We stopped here as we drove around the ring road. The museum is well maintained the the docent was very knowledgeable. The museum also had a little cafe where they served soup and bread and home made pastries. It gave the place a very cozy feeling. We also visited the church. A lovely site all around.

The Glumbauer Museum is a “turf house” of the type built by Icelanders for hundreds of years into the 20th century. It’s a series of 16 subterranean rooms linked by hallways. The rooms are filled with artifacts and items used by the families that lived there over time. There’s a pamphlet and good information on the walls. The house can be visited in under an hour. There are also barely-visible archeological remains of a house connected to Leif Ericsson and the original settlers of North America.

This farm museum was worth the visit on a cold windy day. Learning about turf farms and being able to walk through the houses was amazing. Don't miss the VR experience. It puts everything together.

I was expecting to see some cool turf-covered houses, which I did. But what I was not expecting was all the cool history and artifacts inside the buildings. We loved learning about life in this part of Iceland and about the interesting building traditions reflected in the museum. We were so happy we went to see these cool houses!

We loved this tour! Such a unique way to experience a portion of Iceland's history. When you get a ticket, you get a brochure and you actually get to explore every room inside this sod house and see the way that the farmers who used it would have lived. If you're not into history or being mostly underground in a small house this isn't for you but we were truly impressed.

The Glaumbær Farm & Museum is an interesting site with a museum grounds held inside old sod houses from back in the day. There is also a tea house on site where you can grab a bite to eat. Very neat to see the houses and the museum, albeit everything here is on the pricey side, from admission to the eats at the teahouse. If history and the "old ways" is interesting to check out, you'll enjoy what's there to offer. The rest of my party thought it was interesting, but I was getting a bit bored.

Just back from a visit and what a pleasant one it was. It was both instructive and informative about how life used to be lived. Take the time to read all the information in each room and it brings it all into perspective. And then go to the cafe for a well earned and hearty soup!
And don't forget to buy the joint ticket with Vidimyri church. It's equally interesting.

On our drive from Akureyri to Reykjavik, we were looking for some stops to break up our drive and this one made the list. About an hour was all we needed to see the whole grounds and learn a bit of how people used to live in these turf houses. It was very informative and educational. I wouldn't say this is worth going out of your way to visit, but if you're in the area, it's definitely worth a stop. The admission price of 1700 ISK seems reasonable for what's offered.

Take the time and stop here! What an incredible, interactive experience! Walking through the turf homes gave an incredible insight into how people lived in this beautiful but unforgiving countryside. It was a cold/wet/windy day (of course!), but once inside the home, there was quiet and warmth - and we roamed from room to room. Another memorable experience!
