Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited the museum on the Feb 4th - we wanted to see the aerial display of historic biplanes as well as the museum. We weren’t disappointed- two skilled RAAF instructors took the planes up for a mock dogfight. Knowledgeable ground staff explained the history. The museum is free too . One of our Melbourne highlights. Thanks to all the team of volunteers who keep this going.

So much fun. So much history and information. So much to look at and so much to listen to. This is just wonderful for all ages. Young kids, teenagers, middle aged and elders. People will be able to find something they like.

Went with two 7 year old boys and they both loved it, so many amazing planes and detailed history of each. Dedicated staff who all look like past RAAF veterans were friendly and informative. Great little gift shop and the whole experience was free!

I want to share my recent experience at the RAAF Museum on June 23rd, 2024, which unfortunately did not meet the expectations of my family and me.

Upon arrival at the museum, we stopped at the gate and we met a very rude Wilson Security guard that had a beard, at the gate. Despite presenting our tickets, the guard was insistent on verifying the date of our booking in a manner that came across as rude and dismissive.

When I clarified that our tickets were booked last week for today's date, he continued to interrogate me in an unprofessional manner. I showed my vicroads digital license however the guard demanded that we provide our physical IDs for my family including an ID or passport for my child. My kid is 6 years old and we don't carry his passport everywhere we go.

I understand that certain protocols must be followed at a defense site, but there was no mention of the requirement to carry physical IDs or passports on the museum’s website or on our tickets.

The guard’s response to my concerns was indifferent, stating, "I don't care, this is a defense site." While we respect and understand the necessity of adhering to security protocols, the manner in which the guard communicated with us was unnecessarily hostile and unhelpful.

Additionally, clear communication regarding the requirements for entry, including the need for physical IDs for everyone should be provided on the website and on the tickets to prevent such misunderstandings.

Unfortunately, it would have taken a lot of time for us to go home get our passports and come back, furthermore due to the guard's behaviour, we didn’t feel like going back.

The museum, aircraft and volunteers were fantastic. Well worth a visit.

However, the civilian security staff at the front gate ruined the experience. No greeting, no smiles, unhelpful and one was quite rude - even screamed at us!
Why do really need a special passant a booking to get onto this base anyway? The active airfield is fenced off and other areas the roads are or should be coned off.
Also, no brochures/maps available, road signage required. This could be a top tourist attraction with just a few simple improvements.

The main collection is nicely done and with informative signs about the history of each aircraft. Big exhibition q out the history of the RAAF and the airbase itself.
Did miss out on the flying display since the had a break during the holidays so better check their web or call and ask when the next display will occur.

I was really happy to visit this museum that i read in the Melbourne official information guide. But what they did not mention is THAT YOU MUST HAVE A PHOTO ID ON YOU... Thus, i did not have my id on me. I could not enter. All this wasted time to get there. Very upset and disappointed.

A must for anyone with an interest in military aircraft. A little out of the way, but worth the trip. A few days a week they have aerial displays, so check their website for the schedule.

Even though this place is located a bit far off from Melboune, but it is worth the visit. The displays are amazing. So is the memorabilia. Make sure you have enough time on hand as the exhibits are unique and takes time to go through. There is aerial display, but check before hand about it. It has a nice souvenir shop with models, pins etc. A must visit for history buff.

To get into the Point Cook RAAF you have to first show photo ID. Just the driver and then wear a tag. Then it is about a 1 minute drive straight down to the museum on the left.

We were welcomed as we came in and given a quick run down and then we were on our own. So much to see. So very well presented. So much history and so many planes to see from 1900's upwards. I'll let the photos tell the story.

Wheelchair access to much of it except the hangar where they are restoring planes. Steel steps to a landing platform.

Small outside cafe closed on our visit.

Sometimes I hear they have airshows but not the day we went.
