The sanctuary has a rich variety of alpine flowers namely rhododendron, poppies, primulas and magnolias. It is rich in endemic flora of Himalayan ranges. Plants with medicinal properties abound here. The lower altitudes are dense with bamboos, which is home to red Panda The waterfalls and the streams attract a great deal of birds including blood pheasants, warblers & tree-creepers.

Kyongnosla Alpine Sanctuary, covering 31-sq.km land, lies at altitudes of 3200 meters to 4200 meters. It is situated 30 km away from Gangtok. The views of Khangchendzonga peak are awesome. This is check post to show your permit or have a hot bowl of noodles. All yaks you see are domesticated. You can't even see wild Yaks in and around Gurudongmar lake also. There are very very few places in Tibet where you may see yaks, but definitely in Sikkim, HP, Ladakh or AP.

This is on the route to Tsomgo Lake. You cannot see any animals except for Yaks. The place has number of shops. Maggi, momos, etc are available. The shops are very colorful due to the variety of clothes

This Wildlife Sanctuary is situated on the Gangtok-Chhangu(Tsomgo)-Nathula way. Wide range of endangered Orchids, Rhododendrons, Silver Firs, Junipers and some grasses are found here. Sikkim's state flower - Rhododendron niveum and a rare species of Chinese lady slipper orchid - Cypripedium tibeticum are also seen here. The place is well conserved by the Indian Army.
