Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Opportunity to have a glimpse at a traditional local market.
If in search of fruits and vegs (at a local price) for your stay, this is the place.
Was there in the afternoon, and some stalls were closed; check ahead the best time to go there. Will take 1h ish (1h30 tops) of your time.

This wonderful sprawling market is well worth walking around. One can find fish, vegetable, fruit, grocery stalls and a myriad of others, including beautiful flower stalls .Such a vibrant market takes a good hour or so to wander round

The market consists of various sections: fish, meat, vegetables and flowers. It is a riot of noise smells and colours as local vendors shout their offers of the day. It is full of every kind of ingredient you would need to produce a Tamil feast. The flower market is overwhelming in its colours. The non-stop bustle of sellers and buyers is in itself fascinating. The stall holders are friendly and happy to be photographed. On some maps the market is shown as the Grand Bazar. There is an eastern entrance through a faded arch on M G road past a motorbike park and entrances on all three other sides. Definitely a must visit in Pondicherry.

We walked here from the hotel thinking we'd have clothes and trinkets to look at. It's really a fruit and vegetable market for the local prople.

I expect it's good at what it's intended to be but not really a tourist market. There are shops around the outside of it which sell Indian clothes, etc at Indian prices that are actually marked on.

Someone already mentioned that the address as given by Tripadvisor is not the one. Goubert Market is on Goubert street, opposite to Police Station, Nehru Street, MG Road Area, Puducherry, 605001. Lots of interesting things one expects to see in the market. The flower section is superb

Visited the market on Sunday morning with the Pondy Cycle Tour. Come with a guide so you don't get lost in the crowded, covered market. So many flowers, fruits, and vegetables. See flower garland weaving in action and pick up some flowers for yourself!

To be exact, it is between Nehru St (the main shopping road in the center of town) and Ranga Pillai St, and between MG Road and Bharati St. The fish market access is on MG Road corner Nehru St (lower side). If you want to avoid the fish-smell, you can enter at the Nehru St side, there you come to fruit shops first. If you enter from Bharati St side (upper side), the flower shops come first. The market is one large block full of shops. An absolute MUST for all photographers. You can spend at least two hours in there. Lots of photo opportunities, with Tamils in traditional dress and face marks. The TA mistake stems from the mix-up of Goubert Market and Goubert Avenue (beach road or Promenade). Eduard Goubert was a prominent French politician born in Pondy, who eventually worked for the accession of Pondy to the Indian Union in 1954.
