Impressive building situated on the Seafront Promenade, illuminated at night. Sadly seeming to fall into disrepair. Unfortunately not allowed in when we visited in December, would have liked to have climbed up inside for a panaramic view.

Old Light House now obsolete, but adds a rustic beauty to otherwise monotonous looking horizontal street line opposite to the beach. Golden rays of the morning sun adds further grace to this tall structure.

Just a quick review to say that I don't think it's possible to enter into the lighthouse of climb up it. Very pretty but just a heads up as we explored trying to get inside but couldn't.

Opened for 2 hours (15:00-17:00) each day. Connectivity is a bit difficult. If you reach by auto, I recommend you to make him wait for 25-30 minutes for nominal charge, and go back in the same vehicle.
The view is from 13th floor, rounded staircase. If you're having problems in walking up the stairs, avoid the place, as no lift is available.
Ticket price - Rs. 10/-. Extra charge for camera.
You have to remove your shoes outside.
Mesmerising view of whole city plus the sea shore. A good photographic place.

The pictures seem to be slightly misleading. The winding stairs belong to the new lighthouse that is situated 2 km south of the town, while the old tubular structured white lighthouse is on the promenade opp Gandhi Thidal. I believe the latter off limits for the public whereas the offers a dizzying view that stitches together an exhilarating outing.

You cannot access this lighthouse and whatever little you see is from the main street outside the brightly painted walls.

In March 1836, this lighthouse was erected. It was built above a rectangular base, 29 m high, with 3 openings and an inner staircase leading to the top where the light was placed. The light was visible to a distance of 29 kms.
Now a new light house has been constructed elsewhere and this lighthouse has been converted partly into a museum. It is located across the street standing face to face from the Gandhi statue. The space in front plays host to various cultural, musical and commercial activities throughout the year.

This is very old building and a symbol of histric formula of guiding the ships in the past. The place is near promende beach.

It's good to see how they have managed to preserve it for so many years. It's an a place to visit in Pondicherry.

This lighthouse is hardly open for 2 hours per day (3-5 PM). With an entry ticket of 10 INR (15 cents), this place is epic and must be visited when you visit Pondicherry. You get to see entire Pondicherry with a scenic view of the coastline as well. Highly Recommended!

I didn't climb up inside so don't know about that but the road in front is always open. It's a nice walk up and down that road by the sea.
