For a small town, Waihi has quite an unusual history. While mining was the place's main industry, it also had a pioneering electronics industry. The recently-upgraded Waihi Arts Centre & Museum offers an stimulating and unusual experience for visitors.

Short visit but very interesting. Friendly person on the desk who went out of her way to point things out. Lots of history in Waihi that was well presented.

The Waihi museum is a must stop if visiting the area. The town is full of mining history and the museum displays this to full effect. Everything was well displayed with lots of interesting facts and figures. I thought the thumbs in the jars were...More

just updating the museum at the moment but had some great exhibits including a 3d look at the mine workings which I've never seen before. Volunteer looking after the place gave us a guided tour and she was so interesting and helpful.

This didn't take us long. The kids were fascinated with some of the exhibits. You must stop in and have a look at the pickled thumbs. That was ununexpected! The jail is hillarious! The "men" in there look like Zombies. There is a charge to...More

If you view the Martha Mine and/or do the Gold Mine tour then it's worth finishing off here at the museum. Gives an overall view of all the mines. We found it interesting

If you have made the effort to climb the hill to see the Martha Gold Mine, then you may as well check this building out,as you will walk passed it anyway. When we visited, it was a damp and very overcast day which gave the...More
