First time visiting: we recommend you bringing good hiking shoes, water, hats, and some snacks. We were charged $30 Mexican pesos per person. We drove all the way to the parking lot were there is an attendant. Once there you pay and star your journey....More

I used “a bit of a trek”’s review for the driving directions. We had a Volkswagen rental car and could have gone the entire way to the entry gate, but previous posts concerned us. The road is right, but go slow and it was no...More

They just completed fixing the road and now the ride is so much nicer. It is now mostly flat dirt with one cobblestone section. You can now drive all the way to the entrance with a nice, shaded parking area. I would recommend a sturdier...More

The water pools at the complex were gross and very little water. The actual petroglyphs were cool and I can appreciate all the time and care put into them and keeping the grounds kept up. The hike up was easy and nicely shaded. You can...More

If you enjoy a ride out of town to see the countryside and an easy hike, be sure to go to the petroglyphs. You can book a trip right in town

The petroglyphs at the Alta Vista site in Nayrit are said to be over 2000 years old. We took a day trip there with Nayrit Uncovered. Cost was $250US but it was well worth it. Rene, our guide, was well aquainted with the site having visited...More

We visited the Petroglyphs on Sunday Feb 10, 2018. The comments on the road access and signage are legit. It requires a solid 4 wheel drive or you walk further. We went there with a friend of ours from the area that had visited the...More

We hiked in to see the petroglyphs with guide Chuy. These were the most well defined petroglyphs I have ever seen and I have seen many. It’s amazing how deep many of them are considering some are 8,000- 10,000 years old. Wear sturdy shoes as...More

This would be considered "off the beaten path" by most. We started by driving to Altavista, then asking the first caballero we saw if he knew a guide that could take us to the petroglifos...he was our guide. It's a not overly challenging hike with...More

We hired Chuy in the town of Chacala. He was fabulous, and extremely knowledgeable. Without his guidance we would have missed a great deal. Well worth it.
