There was a real sense of history here. The setting is stunning and the fact that worship still takes place here is inspiring.

We were meandering along the Dore River valley when we literally stumbled upon Dore Abbey. I am very glad that we did. This abbey was founded in 1147 and has been in continuous use as a house of worship since that. I find that span...More

Lovely church with unusual architecture and history set in the golden valley. Well worth booking a guide too as very helpful and knowledgeable about the monastery that was there in the past.

Situated in the Golden valley this is a lovely old Abbey. Well kept and pretty surroundings. On a sunny day a wonderful place to spend a quiet hour exploring.

Very interesting place to visit. Full of character, lots of events here through the summer music, flowers and plays, beautiful location, and just a short walk to Abbeydore Court gardens (across a field almost) another beautiful place to visit and enjoy a light lunch.
