A perfect September day led to a perfect afternoon cruise around Cascumpec Bay. Comfortably seated on a warm blanket, we listened to Captain Molly explain what we were looking at - mussel and oyster farms, notable bends in the shoreline, Island winters, tuna catches - while we took it all in and her husband piloted the clean and tidy vessel. Molly started things off with "Where would you like to go?" We chose the bay rather than the rougher Atlantic. Seasonal residents of PEI, we wanted to see things from an offshore perspective, like all those lovely cottages tucked away among the trees. A large, very fresh fruit tray and bottled water added to the pleasantries. And for $75 for the four of us on a very generous hour-long trip, it was quite a bargain. Matthew's also offers deep sea and tuna fishing, family outings, etc. They advise you to call for pricing. I believe it is the only cruise of its kind offered in West Prince.

This business came highly recommended. We signed up specifically for the 3 hour excursion which included deep sea fishing, whale and bird watching. I was very keen on the whale watching and even spoke with the crew prior to departure. I was very disappointed when the captain took us straight out to sea (not very far) and that was it for any touring. It was all about fishing. We stayed in one spot for 3 hours and returned to the dock. They did have the meal of fish/mussels - this was nice but if I wanted food I can buy in a restaurant. I can't buy the experience of going out on tour and seeing whales/birds or at least trying to see them and taking in some other sights. That's what we paid for and didn't get any of it.
