Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Although this Center may not seem up to the standards of some American aquariums, we felt it well worth an hour or so. We were actually impressed with how well it is cared for with limited resourses. We learned a lot about the the natural habitat and the conservation challenges in this area.

When visiting this attraction, please make staff aware of the Shark killing taking place daily.

Will give this 5 stars for their excellent work in preserving this beautiful animal, but be aware that another amazing animal is being killed on the same beaches. Sharks finned daily and the authorities don’t even do anything about this illegal trade. Please consider your eco system Oaxaca Mazunte and San Augustinillo and stop the operation of killing sharks and selling items with plastic straws. You have done an excellent job for the titles but without these sharks you will have nothing to fish in the future.

Spent a summer working as a volunteer at National Mexican Turtle Center years ago and their work and dedication to turtle conservation and welfare is incredible. As mentioned by other reviewers, the museum is small, but it serves as a window into the amazing (and much needed) work required to protect sea turtles and wildlife in our oceans. And the museum also helps raise money for the many (much needed) projects the staff and conservationists are involved in.

The idea is great but it is not well maintained. The worst is that many turtles seem to be not healthy. At least they try to offer a lot of education incl. an audio guide via app, but the wifi is not good enough to use it. It must be even worse after the storm in 2022.

I was a little disappointed by this turtle 'sanctuary' in Mazunte. Many of the bigger turtles were in a pool with no rocks or anything resembling their natural habitat in the wild. They tended to just swim back and forth aimlessly so if you want to see turtles exhibiting normal behaviour this is probably not ideal. However, if you just want to see turtles in real-life then this tour could be for you. You can get very close to see different sized turtles, but I think what this place is lacking is a sense of conservation rather than consumerism. For a better but similar thing to do in this part of Mexico, I would recommend the turtle release most evenings on Playa Bacocho.

We went there presuming we were going to help the conservation and we got out with a complete different idea. They have sea turtles in tanks so small i couldn't fit there just for exposition. The tanks of the aquarium are small and badly prepared. You can see stressed turtles and that they want to get out of there.
Terrible place for such a wonderful animal. I don't even know how they can call themselves a institution to protect the Turtle

This place is a fun, half day visit. You can see the sea turtles they are helping to raise in order to restore the population as well as a variety of land turtles, both those on display and those in the turtle hospital, brought in by neighbors for the biologists to take care of.

So informative and so many different species of turtles in this centre. Loved visiting here, though some turtles looked like they needed more water!!

not bad. felt turtles were in tanks that were far too small in main building. felt very sad for the large ones. outdoor bit was better. I don't like the way zoos have animals in small areas, thought this would be different. only recommend you seek out the hatching/young turtle area.

Even though the center seems to be a work in progress at the moment, I was amazed at the number of species they home. I love turtles, and being able to be so close to them was a real treat. A good plus is that there were staff available around to answer questions and give tours. They are doing a fenomenal job there and they'd obviously benefit from more funding. I hope they get it.
