Haven't been to this pub for years but popped in for a late Sunday afternoon pint recently and, to my delight, found that it hadn't changed or been "modernised" or "rebranded". The pub is marvellous and everything that country pubs were and still should be....More

Disgusting. Very rude landlord and unwelcoming. Bad mannered patrons. Unclean and dated. Won't be coming back.

I know Danny he is a very experienced landlord always makes sure the real ale is at its best or he would not serve it ,the food is not silver service but its very good ,OK the overall look of the pub is a bit...More

This Pub, in the 'middle of nowhere' is an absolute jem. It serves great beer (four real ales, all good) and the best ham, egg and chips ever. It's sort of fashionably scruffy situated well outside of Hitchin (you wouldn't want to walk from the...More

My girlfriend and I visited this remote pub after a lovely walk up from Whitwell. At first appearance it wasn't entirely clear that the pub was actually open. When we walked through the front door we noticed a lady at the far end of the...More

This was a planned lunchtime stop during a fairly long walk. It was a real plus and a pleasure to discover that it was such a lovely local pub with friendly and excellent service. My egg and bacon sandwich was delicious - it sounds (and...More

Excellent unpretentious boozer. great beers. great books. great crisps. Bought two pints at 2.25pm. The tension was building... two thirds of way through deciding game of cards but then a pointed request to drink up at 2.45pm. Not cool customer relations. A pity.

Great pub, great ales. Just the ticket for thirsty walkers. Plus it IS the bus stop for those wishing to organise onward travel. Peaceful rural spot near the lovely old church. It's not the smartest pub decor but it retains good honest charm and always...More

Never been in this pub before, but saw the advent for this pizza/pasta evening and gave it a go. Very unpretentious. Friendly staff. Good value for money. Basic dining not everyone's taste, suited us, intend to go back.
