We came here during the week pre-season (season starts on June 1st). The town was pretty sleepy with public transport running every couple of hours (roughly). We took our time to go through Kochel and the neighbouring village Walchensee which also seemed rather sleepy. For us this was exactly what we had wanted! Over the weekend things livenend up though... More

Whether winter or summer, this lake is set in a semi mystical environment, a few years back they built some fantastic appartements here, but one can still really tune into nature here, walk a little through the trees on the lake shore, and truly relax, a great place to meditate...

A stunning lake on a fabulous roadtrip for those preferring to travel on two or 4 wheels. We went in February when there was plenty of snow for skiing but the roads were good and passable for a break from Garmisch to exercise mind and spirit rather than body for half a day.

At the foot of the mountains this lake offers many opportunities to walk, jogging and riding the bike in very quiet paths.

The Kochelsee is a nice Bavarian lake but its neighbor lake Wachelsee is much much more scenic. The surroundings of the Kochelsee are mountains ("falling into" the water) only on a third of the lake, the two other thirds are flat and much more common.

Kochel Lake isnt the biggest lake around its really quite quiet compared to say the Chiemsee but its preety and the round the lake boat trip at 5€ for just over 90 minutes is good the captain does a running commentary but sorry it was in German. You can have a snack on the boat and a little glass of... More

We rented a boat and took it out on the lake, it was very peaceful and quiet and the view was great. This place isn't overrun with tourists, though it's beautiful.

You can get a train from Munich with a change at Tutzing to Kochel am See or a DB bus from Garmisch Partenkirchen. A round trip by bus and train is a good idea. You could also take in Walchensee and the Herzogstand cable car. Kochelsee is not a great lake to walk round by Kochel itself with more paths... More

Much more quaint and quiet between the 2 lakes south of Penzberg, yet equally as pretty. Fewer commercial buildings so more rustic earthy experience. The outdoor pool at Kristall Trimini is ok during the hottest summer months, but otherwise is cold. But the mountain view is incredible. The staff need better training as most did not have answers to basic... More

There are some picnic tables scattered along the Trimini road. With only very few buildings visible along the banks of the lake you feel very much like this how the lake must have always looked - untouched. A nice contrast to starnberger see which is also close by.
