You can go for a couple of hours but i would recommend renting a house/room to spend the day and night. You can hire a boat to take you around the lake. There are beautiful houses around the lake.

We have been to Lago de Coatepeque several times over the past 8 years, it's always good to go back. We usually eat Rancho Alegre, always good good food with a great view.

Went here with local friends. we swam, ate fish, drank plenty of beer and jet skied. Would recommend, especially as its so close to San Salvador.
