I went to the Sakai Plaza of Rikyu and Akiko on 17/10/2015. The building comes in two sections; one section for Sen-No-Rikyu and the other one is for Akiko. It is a good effort to build this kind of building as a remembrance of those two important persons.

Located in Sakai, you can start with a movie to learn briefly about Sen and Akiko.
After the visit, I do recommend the tea ceremony there in a casual way.

The museum is not so big, but if you are interested in a tea ceremony and Sen Rikyu it is definitely worth a visit. Please make sure to get the instructions how to use their guiding system for smartphones! There is also an optional tour to visit a real tea room (a replica of Sen Rikyus famous tea room), this is well worth the time and money. The museum also provides tea and sweets in a tea ceremony. A nice opportunity for firstcomers to Japan. Just outside the museum, there is a monument and a dwell which is indicating where Sen Rikyu probably used to live.

My daughter watches this anime series and she requested we go here. Well it was worth seeing the happiness on my daughters face when we we thru with the place. It is very interesting even if you don't know anything about anime like me. The diorama that greets you is beautiful. There is also push button history speakers. Of course it's in Japanese. But the staff are very friendly to tourists. The district itself where it is located is so peaceful it's like a quiet town. It's one train ride from namba station. Try to get the rapid line as it cuts travel time by about 20-25 minutes. Beautiful place indeed!

I was riding a rental bike in Sakai and came across this plaza. I enjoyed visiting the plaza and it was not crowded. The self guided tour is amazing. The staff their was very helpful and even one or two of them spoke very good English. This gives you a great history of Sakai and Rikyu and Akiko. A must visit if visiting Sakai!

This is a newly- built facility related to Sen-no Rikyu, tea master and Akiko Yosano, poet, both born in Sakaicity.
First we can see the 12-min movie to learn Sakai, life of tea master Sen- no Rikyu and tea ceremony. We learned and enjoyed Japanese culture- tea ceremony. We experienced tea ceremony in casual style( Ryurei) with such a nice Japanese sweet.
It can be accessed by a small tram in 30 minutes. Very close to Shukuin station. Although located not far from downtown Osaka, Sakai area has something quiet and nice.
If you can book in advance, you will be guided to Sakai Tai-An ( replica of Tai-An in Yamazaki in Kyoto, national treasure).
