At the end of Falls Rd there is the entrance to the Serpentine National Park. Admission is 15 AUD per vehicle while pets are not permitted in this park. We parked at the large car park immediately after the bridge over the Serpentine River. From here, the falls can be reached with an easy 300m path. In this small but beautiful waterfall the water flows for about 15m down a granite outcrop and ends up in an artificially created pool. Going back, before reaching the car park, we took the narrow iron footbridge over the Serpentine River located beside the two large pipes of the pipeline to start the Kitty's Gorge Trail. There are many paths in this natural area, but we have chosen this path because it follows the Serpentine River. The first 400m of the trail require a moderate degree of fitness for a rapid ascent of 50m. Then the path becomes pleasant with continuous views of the river which forms small rapids and natural pools. We saw waterbirds like Pacific black duck (Anas superciliosa), Australian wood duck (Chenonetta jubata), while among the birds of the bush there were red-tailed black cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus banksia), Australian ringneck (Barnardius zonarius) and scarlet robin (Petroica boodang). We also saw several grey kangaroos. After a picnic in the barbeque area surrounded by very friendly kangaroos and fearless Australian magpies, we took the car and drove to the Serpentine Pipehead dam. A small dam in the bush with crystal clear water and rich bird life. There is also a toilets and a playground near this dam. To complete the tour we then continued by car to the Serpentine Main Dam. Following Kingsbury Dr we drove across the dam wall and we parked in the car parking on the west of the dam. This is a much larger dam than the previous one with a 55m high dam wall and a 16km long water reservoir. A long and very interesting visit to this beautiful national park.

I visited the Serpentine National Park as part of a walking trail series, and it was great to be able to get out and explore one of Perth’s national parks. Great walking trails.

A nice road to drive a car or ride a motorcycle... just watch the corners for gravel on the road

Good view at the dam

Just south east of the perth CBD is a wonderful bushland day’s excursion with many natural bushland experiences to explore in your own leisure. Trail walks exist through the National Park for all levels of fitness. Rivers and streams to discover, The Serpentine Dam has a lovely cafe to sit back, relax, eat and drink overlooking the beautiful water reserve. Serpentine Falls is a wonderful location for a picnic and hang out amongst Australian bushland spot a few native animals, even go for a dip at the base of the falls.
Enjoy connecting back to nature, it brings you back to the simple things that make you feel good.

We have visited The Serpentine for ten years whilst on holiday and find it a wonderful place. The trees, animals and views are spectacular. It is a place everyone should go to if they are staying in the Perth area. We have had picnics and enjoyed walking through the forest.

In February I swam in the Serpentine Falls pool which was an experience with lots of other people. I would like to warn anyone who wants to swim in the pool not to go in with any cuts, however small. I did this and have come back with an badly infected leg. There are warnings about algae in the pool water and the algae got into my leg. It is being treated now and will clear up. If you take note of the warning notices you will enjoy your visit without problems.
We enjoyed our meal at the Cafe above the Dam a favourite place of ours.
We hope to return to Australia next year for a holiday and visit The Serpentine again.
There are toilets in the car park for The Pool at The Serpentine. People bring picnics as there are no cafes near the Pool itself but we went to the Cafe above the Dam which is not far from The Pool. I hope this review has been useful. Throughout The Serpentine you will find a few eating places along the main roads in the small towns. Always take water with you when travelling.

Did a couple of the hiking trails in the park abd found them to be pretty good.
Baldwins bluff was great with some fairly steep sections of track that get the blood pumping and good views at the end.

My first visit to the park despite numerous transits along South Western Highway over the past 40 plus years. Abundant greenery, interesting walking trails for the more adventurous, but, other than three kangaroos lazing at the parking area, not another animal or bird sighted. We enjoyed the meandering loop drive along Kingsbury Drive and Jarrahdale Road with a number of stops along the route to view the dam and falls. Enjoyable, but I should have remembered the fly repellent and my National Parks Pass.

The Serpentine National Park is in the Perth Hills. It's close to the Serpentine Dam. It's in the bush, but not too far from Perth. You can take the walking trails, to get back to nature. The park has picnic areas, BBQs, playgrounds and toilets. Serpentine National Park is a good family day out.

Well sign posted, clean toilet facilities, lovely barbecue facility and picnic area.
Great walk with lovely WA fauna and flora and birds chirping in the trees with the sound of running water along the creek. We had a great 2 hour walk, and enjoyed the refreshing cool drinking water in the picnic area afterwards. And extra bonus to see kangaroos. Wheelchair accessible to small waterfall. Good parking facilities. Very much worth paying entrance fees.
