Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Mecidiye Bridge or Meriç Bridge was built on the Edirne-Karaağaç Road, over the Meriç River. Its construction started in 1842 during the reign of Sultan Abdülmecit and was completed in 1847. It is a stone bridge with a length of 263 meters, a width of 7 meters, 13 legs and 12 pointed arches, and it is inclined to the sides. There are also ejaculation chambers between the feet. The Inscribed Pavilion in the middle is made of marble.

This is the historical Meric Bridge. It was completed in 1843 during the reign of Abdulmecit I, although it was under the reign of Mahmud II when they actually started to build it some 30 years before that. The bridge now connects the city of Edirne to the Karaagac district, famous for its old houses as well as cafes and restaurants by the river. The bridge is open to both car and pedestrian traffic and it takes about 20 minutes to walk from here to the city centre with the more popular landmarks of the city: the three mosques (Eski Camii, Uc Serefeli Camii, and the iconic Selimiye Camii) as well as the Alipasa Bazaar, the synagogue, the Bulgarian Church, and the Darussifa Health Museum.

This is a wonderful bridge with a decent lightening at night time. It was constructed in 1842-1847. It is above the Meriç River and there is an Ottoman kiosk in the middle for the Sultan to watch the spectacular sunset.

It's not too far from city center of Edirne. Even, you can walk if you're not interested to take a bus or taxi. It's quite place, presenting the old bridge. You can see Selimiye Mosque from here.
In the river bank, there are some restaurants and coffe shop where you can have relax while enjoying a cup of tea or a cup of hot chocolate. Seing the flowing water in this river gave me the peacefull feeling.

A bridge that bridges. Doubtless more impressive when it is bridging more (such as a flood). But as bridges go it is worth seeing if you like bridges and are in the area.

This Ottoman style bridge was built in 1842, but looks older than it actually is. From the bridge you have a wonderful view over the Meriç River. You can still drive your car over this bridge but only one way. The historic bridge has beautiful lighting at night, which reminded me of one of the many bridges in Prague. You should definitely stop at one of the cafés nearby to enjoy the scenery while drinking çay or Turkish coffee. From the bridge you’ll also see the impressive Selimiye Mosque.

If you ignore everything else and focus only on the bridge itself and imagine as if you’ve travelled in time to say the 19th century, or even as late as early 20th century, you will very likely enjoy viewing this elegant structure. However with all the stuff happening around and the ridiculous traffic I can’t rate it more than three stars and consider going there just to see the bridge worth it. If you’re in Edirne by all means make the 10 minute effort to check it out though.

The bridge is so beautiful and like a gem however normal vehicle transport should be banned not to cause further damage to the structure.
