Well worth the drive to the far end of Texel island (first of the Waddenzee island chain). There is a vast beach which gradually gives way to the sea with further sandbanks just a little way out. The shifting sea currents are mesmerising. The tower...More
Desert-size beach with scenic lighthouse in the background - one of the biggest and most beautiful beaches we have ever come across. It's a bit windy and it involves both positives and negatives, obviously: sand gets everywhere but gentle breeze is refreshing. You can easily...More

No worries about no Dutch. Everyone speaks English in Holland. And for safety I would say it is perfectly safe. Just don´t rely on warm water in the sea... It is the North Sea after all. Staying the night is possible, there are several places on the island you can stay. Alternatively you can stay on the mainland as it is only 20 min away by ferry. We stayed in a bed and breakfast type of thing which was nice. But we booked literally last minute therefore the lack of choice. Try to plan in advance as there are a lot of Dutch and German tourists in July and August. Definitely worth visiting, magnificent dunes and perfect for nature lovers, also calm and quiet.
