Wonderful Levada
Apr. 2021
We had a couple of walks along Levada Nova, and really enjoyed the views along the way. Wonderful levada walk!

Quite easy walk
Dec. 2020 • Couples
Quite easy walk with nice views. It took us 4 hours to do the full loop. There was 2 small streams on the path so be prepared to jump.

Great!
Aug. 2020 • Couples
We did this walk from Ponta dol Sol, here it says that it is in Prazeres but maybe it starts in 2 places?
Anyway we walked the Lavada Nova and then back you follow the Lavada Moinha. We really enjoyed this walk especially the first part with the Lavada Nova.
It’s beautiful and a real Lavadawalk with great heights and views.

We thought it was the most beautiful walk we did (but didn’t do them all obviously :))

Gentle Levada
Jan. 2020
We had a couple of walks along Levada Nova, and really enjoyed the views along the way. Very easy going, not nearly as hairy as some of the Levadas, in fact not hairy at all.

Spectacular waterfall
Jan. 2020
We only did part of this trail as we connected to it from Levado Moinho. We started on Moinho and when we went up the stone stairs, we discovered we had connected to Nova which was fine because it led us to this wonderful waterfall. After the waterfall, heading back the path on Nova is on narrow concrete with steep drop-offs and no wire fencing in places. It felt a little scary at times. But this was only for a small portion and later the trail ran alongside the canyon and felt safe and secure. Beautiful views. You will need a flashlight for the tunnel on Levada Nova.
If you think this is not for you and you still want to see the waterfall then start at Levada Moinho, at the back of the church, when you get to the stone stairs you will connect to Levada Nova just before the waterfall. Then you can turn around and retrace your steps back to the church to avoid any scary part.

Great views
Jan. 2020 • Couples
Relatively easy to get to by bus, via Ribeira Brava. This is a lovely levada walk. The bus driver dropped us off at our start, then it is a bit of a climb up the hills on quiet roads to the start of the levada. The walk along the levada affords lovely views of the valley that you progress along on both sides. There is a cafe part way round for refreshments. The walk down into Ribeira Brava is a long stretch down to the town and sea with great views on the valley.

Hike is as good as the destination
Jul. 2019
We all enjoyed the hike to the 25 Fontes. The walk next to the waterways was magical. The lushness of the woods and the plant life was beautiful. Lots of birds as well. On the way back, we walked up the road with a herd of cows, their calves, and one bull. They were all calm, thank goodness.

Walking with Emanuel
Mar. 2019
Excellent day out - complete with free botany lecture from Emanuel on the therapeutic values of many plants along the levada.
Spectacular flora - where we have dandelions and buttercups in Madeira it's Agapanthus, Hydrangeas and Passiflora etc.

Prazeres to Calheta very pleasant
Apr. 2019 • Couples
We started in Prazeres parking opposite cafe Calhau (basic local friendly with toilets) and walked about 8 miles there and back which is easy and pleasant. The Waterhouse garden is very sweet. It's level but you still need a head for heights in some places. Great agapanthus

A nice, easy sort of walk
Mar. 2019 • Family
If you want to experience the steepest paths and most spectacular views, there are better levadas for you. However, if you are afraid of heights, have small children, are not very fit or just want to have an easy walk in the nature, Levada Nova would work for you.
