We stopped here prior to heading for our winery tour and did not regret the decision. The fortezza sits on top of a hill overlooking a vast area. We could have sat in the village there and stared all day long. It's a very quiet village area that was only marred be our presence. It would be a nice getaway... More

I will begin by saying that the curator of the fortress was very helpful and knowledgeable. Also kind, which is a big plus when visiting new places. The fortress is interesting not only for it's history but also for the sublime views it affords from it's gardens and turrets.

This castle is beautiful and atmospheric and the suggested donation to enter very reasonable. On the day we visited the guide manning the entrance was exceptionally helpful and as a bonus he spoke good English which was brilliant in that it helped us to appreciate the history to best advantage. You gain some wonderful vantage points of the surrounds from... More

Take a step back in time in the magnificent Tuscan medieval village of Montecarlo! Do yourself a favor and contact Valter for a guided tour of his private property, the medieval fortress of Montecarlo. Learn how the people of the village protected themselves from invaders. Marvel at the architecture and the restoration. Valter seems to make the walls and rooms... More

I arranged for a visit to the fortress for my friend and I on our recent trip to Italy. Valter, who is the owner of the fortress gave us a private guided tour which was a highlight of our trip. He is very passionate about the history of this historic gem and shares his weath of knowledge in his amazing... More

This little town and the area around are one of the main reasons we want to return to Italy. We stayed at San Gallo in Fornache and visited Montecarlo every day. The people are friendly and the food was delicious wherever we ate. What a perfect memory of Italy.

This village is small, but not to be missed! There are several restaurants, wine-tasting, olive oil and several shops for hand-made items from the area.

The castle dominates this small hilltop town, with all the romance that one expects from a Tuscan fortress. Although a small site it has several towers and there are new views around each corner. It is fun to explore even without any knowledge of its history, but the visit was made perfect by the reception from the family who own... More
