Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I am from Salento, but I recently discovered the existence of this church.
A one-of-a-kind artistic jewel, especially for interiors.
There is not an inch that is not covered by frescoes; the school is Giotto's and dates back to around 1350-1400. According to experts, it is second only to the Basilica of San Francesco di Assisi.
However, it is advisable to read up on information with the help of a smartphone, in order to understand the meaning of what you admire.
Free entry (to my great surprise, because for works of art like this, you pay a minimum of €15 around Italy).
I highly recommend!

spectacular church with frescoes everywhere, very reminiscent of the church of San Francesco in Assisi. all the naves are very beautiful, the cloister and the sacristy can also be visited where there is a micro mosaic that can be seen using a magnifying glass. entry is free. not to be missed

On holiday in Salento you cannot miss the opportunity to visit this Basilica
The building was built on a pre-existing Byzantine church of Greek rite dating back to the 9th-10th century, traces of which are clearly visible in the external wall of the right nave into which the apse was incorporated, perhaps to save building material.
The pictorial decoration is of great artistic importance. The interior was completely frescoed towards the end of the fourteenth century by local workers, covering older fragments in some parts. In fact it is a real pictorial palimpsest created from the first half of the fourteenth century until the 1440s.
The entire cycle of frescoes develops from left to right, in a rotational direction and is certainly more interesting in the central nave.

One of the best places to see frescos at their finest. The colors are amazing, one could spend hours in this holy place gazing and wondering at the art floor to ceiling! If you have an opportunity to see this church don't miss out - modest on the outside - amazing interior!

This basilica is located on Place Orsini. It was built in the 14th century. It stands out above all for its interior decoration. It’s very busy and there are a lot of things to discover. But it is better to prepare for your visit or, better yet, take the guided tour. Combine the visit with that of the remarkable cloister on the left of the basilica. A place to visit and even worth a little detour if you are a fan of history and religious art. The place is listed as free. When we visited, the tour required a donation before entry.

The city is really pretty, among other things it is the original home of a sweet tooth: pasticciotto.
But the wonder for which a visit to Galatina is definitely worth is the Basilica of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria. Sgarbi argues that it is second in size to the pictorial cycles only to the Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi.
The visit takes a couple of hours and it would be useful to do it with a Guide to fully appreciate its meaning and value.

In Galatina is the local basilica with the second largest area of frescoes in Italy.
It is indeed very impressive when you enter the sanctuary.
Frescoes from the life of Christ, from Genesis and from the life of Saint Catherine.
Very special!!

A unique experience
Beautiful
The cathedral is second to that of Assisi
A wonder
To visit the museum next door where a kind cicero will show you the relics and beautiful things present
The country is welcoming and full of sights not to be missed!

You enter through the little side door ... boah!
Unbelievable how well all these paintings have survived. The pictures don't do the experience justice.
It is absolutely worth it to drive a fair distance to Galatina only to see this basilica.
Do it! You won't regret it.
(In Otranto there is the Basilica di San Pietro which is similar but they don't seem to have their opening times under control.)

Absolutely one of the most beautiful places to visit! the entire church is covered in visual history (some rather scary) with beautiful colors and designs, from highest point to the floorsf. There is also a magnificent little pipe organ, restored. Truly a place not to miss!
