We have visited New Zealand many many times and on this occasion devided to wander down Godley Peaks road on a sunny December afternoon.l to Lake Macgregor and Lake Alexandrina. The drive out along the shores of Lake Tekapo was stunning - the bare ranges of the Southern Alps dotted with the residue of winter snow, the bright vivid waters reflecting the gorgeous blue of the sky - the vistas were stunning. Colours were so vivid on this day. Bring jackets as the katabatic winds coming down from the Southern Alps can change a very warm summer's day to a chilly one.

Lake Alexandrina is easily accessible along the west side of Lake Tekapo, about 7 kms. from the main highway. The lake is in a peaceful setting among the surroundings hills, popular with fishermen and families. In season nesting Red Grebes may be found along the exit stream.

If you like walking in a wonderful secluded scenic spot then this could be the place for you. Approx 20 mins drive from Lake Tekapo you arrive at the outlet to Lake Alexandrina, this is a lake where only row boats are allowed and it is a trout fishermans dream. The Lake is surrounded by low hills which has a backdrop of mountains often covered in snow, willow trees line the lake shore so there is always a shady spot to stop and take in the view. There are a few batches and caravans here but it is not overrun with people. No dogs allowed.

Short drive on a shingle road very scenic drive along south side of Lake Tekapo. Lake Alexandrina for photography purposes is great early am or late afternoon..lovely for picnic

We discovered Lake Alexandrina on a day when we were just driving around exploring whatever we found to photograph and what a gem we found! The lake was like a mirror, perfectly reflecting the blue sky with white fluffy clouds, and fringed by the colours of Autumn. The result was stunning photos and more feelings of awe - something we experienced a lot in Lake Tekapo and MacKenzie country.

Lake Alexandrina is located in the Mackenzie Basin which is serene and beautiful panoramic views of the lake and the valley.

I tried to buy a place here once. The tiny cottages go for quarter of a million at least and you never own the land...so sadly not the best investment. BUT, I still dream about it and we go and visit every time we are in Tekapo. A magical and relaxing little secret.

The Lake alexandrina camp is amazing and definitely worth a visit. The toilet are new and clean, the camp ground is amazing with a wunderfull lake for swimming.

It was deserted on the snowy day we went, but a nice spot tucked away out of the busyness of Tekapo. Beautiful lake views on the drive out too.
