Someone really needs to hang a big fish from this thing. I guess it was an interesting idea for someone to build, but hey, someone stuck a bunch of 59 Cadillac's in the ground in Amarillo TX and it attracts people too.

I love this park area of Houston. It is well maintained and close to everything, and of course it has the massive fly rod which signifies the great fishing in the area. A nice place to stop while driving through.

Nothing too exciting unless you're into very large things that don't really fit inside you're photo lens :-) But stop by the Visitor Info that's in the same lot. The people there are very friendly and helpful.

I've lived in Houston for 33 years and although the town doesn't look like much, you gotta take a back road to really see it. This area is not called the Lakes District for nothing. If you want to see the most beautiful areas around-take...More

Seen the grizzly. Lived in this town before. Tourism admin helpful. Showed our travel companions the fly rod and bear. Bought some local books. Wish they had more bumper stickers.

Perfect excuse to get out of the car and stretch your legs while enjoying this kitschy claim to fame. We happened to drop by on a Saturday when a farmers market was taking place and it was absolutely worth the stop.

I'd heard about this iconic welcome to Houston alongside the highway as you enter town. It's worth stopping to see/photo op. Extremely well constructed and sends a great message of what the region is noted for, ie outdoor recreating/fishing. It was a pleasant surprise to...More

Was a nice stop - just don't drive by!! We enjoyed taking photos and relaxing around the rest area. Good place to check out whats happening in the local area too (information boards).

Stretch the legs and get a photo. The best time is when the local farmers market is on. You can see everything from the road, but it is still a good place to stretch the legs

Yes it's a large fly rod, but one you won't find anywhere else. This attraction is located Amongst well kept gardens of beautiful flowers and the attraction itself is unique.
