This is a really good local museum, ideal for small children but all ages will appreciate the history. The cafe is reasonable and the parking is free. The canal provides a place for a nice stroll but it's let down by the amount of litter left along the paths and in the bushes.

Was our first visit here and we really enjoyed it. My father in law used to love coming before he passed away and i can definitely see why. My 6year old had lots of fun learning about the past and we even had lunch in the cafe. Thankyou for a great day

A nice place to take the kids and adults for a bit of local social history. If the weather is poor, spend a couple of hours wandering around looking at the old street scene, the cobbler, the Chippy, the pub, the doctors. The kids can try the hats on. and then have a snack at the café. If the weather... More

......free, informative, interesting, with something for everyone. We thoroughly enjoyed the few hours we spent at Portland Basin. The museum focuses on the lives of local inhabitants, the industries they worked in, how they spent their leisure time and the impact of war on them. The exhibits are presented in a way which is fun (e.g. the accompanying sound effects)... More

Great Museum with a lovely cafe. We're very lucky to have such a good museum with a great story to tell. On two flooors with good access for all. A very good cafe with a lovely oudoor area. I visited with residents from a care home and they loved the 'trip down memory lane'. Some had a stroll down the... More

Lovely place but it desperately needs more staff interaction with visitors. There's no one around to ask except at the till.
