Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

So my gf and I visited on an overcast day which others may not appreciate. I actually liked having the clouds in the sky for the texture/contrast without the photos washing our from sun streaks. Note that you should follow the road signs and not use Google maps to get here (we learned the hard way the Google maps was inaccurate). It is quite a zig zag climb up narrow roads to get there. Note there is a smaller lookout point in the backside of this lookout too you pass on your way back out.

At 542 metres above sea level, the observation deck affords striking views of the island's various shades of "patchwork quilt" green pastures divided by stone walls. The city of Praia da Vitoria can also be seen on a clear day. We preferred to stand away from the observation deck as it was much less windy. Hold on to your hats if standing on the deck. In addition to the beautiful views, the drive up and down was also an adventure.

Easy to get to from the highway or from the smaller towns. It takes a few minutes to get to the top. It took me longer getting up as I was blocked by a herd of cows being shepherded by a truck driven by an irate farmer cursing his luck (I think?) and gesticulating wildly. I was happy to wait, watching this spectacle unfold in front of me.
At the top you are surrounded by a group of windmills fanning the space. The views are amazing from up there. You can see Porto Martins, the town of Cabo do Praia, many rectangular fields marked by volcanic rock walls and cows apparently perched on a slant on the hilly terain.

We had passed the turn off for this viewpoint one day and decided to go the next. It included fields of green as far as the eye could see. The photos don't tell the whole story. Each family owns a plot and because there are not any easements or right of ways cattle are not kept on these plots. Crops are grown here and it is interesting to note that on this island the cow get fresh grass in winter, but receive silage/haylage in summer when there isn't enough rain to grow the grass.

If you have a car it is worth the drive up as the views are great even on a not so clear day. It can be a little chilly from the wind. If you can wait for a sunny clear day will be better.

This is a great overlook. You have an outstanding view of the various fields that you see in some of the well-known photos of Terceira.
There are a decent number of road signs that guide you to the place. We made the mistake of using Google Maps which took us out of the way and down a very small farming lane. Double check your settings if you’re using GPS.

This is a lookout onto land, not the ocean.
If u r driving around , and it’s a clear day stop here. It’s beautiful.

It is a nice view and you can get there by car. It is pretty windy though, so watch out! Very nice insight on Terceira.

Hi, can you please share the route of the walk?

Hello Dealnavigator,
You are obviously a not seasoned traveler. You should not be sorry to have booked the tour, you should be sorry not to have gotten travel insurance. I have used AAA in the past and it has been well worth it.

Thank you for everyone's quick response to my rental car question. I also would like to know little more about the islands. Is Azores same as the Terceira island? Or, two different island? There are two different tours are being offered from U.S. and I'm not sure which tour I should take. This is my first time going to the islands off Portugal. Thanks in advance for you guys help.

Jeannette's answer was excellent. My wife and I have been to three of the nine islands - Terceira (3x), Pico and Faial - i have used Azores Getaways every time. i will most likely always use them, until I purchase a property there - their prices are really good and their customer service is excellent.

Should I rent a car for a weeklong stay? I’m planning to take many tours (pick-up from the tour company available? Taxis? ). Any response will help us as this is our first trip to the island.

We were there for a week and rented a car. Car rental wasn't expensive at all. If you choose your hotel well you may not need a car especially if you are doing a lot of tours. A lot of people at our hotel did not have cars and used the local buses (the bus stop was a 5 minute walk) to go into town for shopping and dinner when they were not on their tours. We just liked the independence of having a car.
