Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Car parking at Girley bog can be tricky but once you secure a spot, this eco trail is well worth the wait. The Girley bog eco trail is 3.5 miles and covers varying landscape of forest and bogland. The terrain is flat and uneven, I wore runners, although walking boots are highly recommended. The bog is a mixture of gravelled paths, grassy trails and raised wooden boardwalks. It is an easy walk but if there has been any bit of wet weather, the area gets very muddy, you will get dirty.
The first section of the looped walk takes you through a tranquil Coillte forest where you follow a forest track before entering Girley Bog, one of the few remaining raised bogs in County Meath. The loop finishes with a walk along a country lane before tracing your steps back to the carpark.
Wild in parts giving lovely views across the bog from the boardwalk. The Girley Bog Eco trail is a beautiful walk, so peaceful and relaxing even though thr carpark might say otherwise!

Girley bog is a beautiful and peaceful walk. It is a short drive from Athboy just off the road to Kells.
Parking is very limited but you can use the community centre a couple of minutes walk from the entrance.
The bog is a mixture of gravelled paths, grassy trails or a raised wooden boardwalk. It's an easy walk but if there has been any degree of wet weather, you may find it muddy so wear hiking boots or old trainers you don't mind getting dirty!
The raised boardwalk section is great and every so often they have display boards with info on the local flora and fauna - not many though, so in that respect it could be improved.
Would love to see a few more maps or coloured trails marked out to aid navigation.
Delightfully wild in places which is great and at times you get lovely views across the bog from the boardwalk.
All in all, a beautiful walk, so tranquil and relaxing.

Not far from Kells. It is brilliant for nature lovers. Walk is about 6 kilometres. In wet time special footwear would be advised.

It's a nice walk, was able to let the dog off the lead and he met with other dogs off lead also.
Signs could do with being updated as there are a few turns that lead to dead ends.
Would recommend.

Lovely walk around a narrow country path. Kids loved running free . The biggest problem is, its to hard to find . One small sign from the side if the road and it's pointed the wrong way. If yr coming from Kells it's about 6k out on N52 Before you come to a petrol station it's a narrow lane to the left. So of you get to the petrol station turn back

The Eco walk is a great idea with arrows and maps to point you in the right direction. A little lonely so well worth going with a friend or for a family walk. It is interesting landscape and has very versatile views of the surrounding landscape. Good footwear needed as it can be slippy in places but overall a great place for a walk, we brought a camera and my husband enjoyed the changing light and terrain. It was frosty when we were there but very clear and extremely beautiful.

We drove up from Dublin today and enjoyed our walk in Girley Bog superbly. The air is fresh and the silence is wonderful. We spent almost three hours roaming around Girley Bog and only met two other walkers and a doggy, it was as if we had the place to ourselves. It’s well worth a visit, must be absolutely delightful in Summer.

This is one to get the blood flowing, uneven surfaces are great exercise if you’re up to it. We take the dog who loves it too. Be careful in the frost and ice though as the wooden walkways can get slippery.

Having had a great day as part of a Hens' party at Causey Farm, I thought my husband and I would try the looped walk. We couldn't find anywhere to leave the car and came home.

We had the 6km trail all to ourselves - the solitude is splendid. The trail is well-marked once you get to it, but be careful as it's easy to miss the trail head sign on the N52 - it's on the left as you come from Kells. Once you park and walk the 600m to the start of the marked walk, you are in for a real treat. The trail goes round the perimeter and then takes you onto a boardwalk to the middle of the bog. There's just on seat - right in the heart of the bog and we stopped there for a picnic - perfect!
