Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Do not risk staying in Ouistreham. Its alive with black youths trying to get into cars . My door was opened while I was sat in supermarket car park. My doors were tried numerous times while parked outside hotel in town centre - I watched from Hotel window - brazen. Sad to say AVOID OUISTREHAM!

Didn't see much of the town. Parked at the parking at place du Gaulle. I left my campervan for less then 5 minutes to look at the fishmarket. When I came back there where 2 black Sudanese boys in the back off my campervan trying to hide in the bathroom. Hoping to get a ride on the ferry. But we are from the Netherlands so not taken the ferry to go Home. They cracked the rooftop window open. A witness told us the where I the van whitin 5 seconds. This is a warning to all. Do not leave your van, camper, car or caravan alone.

Our 1st place towards Atlantic Ocean happened at the end of our first day (during 5 days tour) in harbor place Ouistreham which have also a river (canal) connection towards nearest town, Caen. It was surprise for us that also big ferry connection was in operation between England (Portsmouth) towards English Chanel. Lot of cars, lorries & trucks just drive out from ferry when we arrived. Looked like fully port infra & lot of fishing boats also. After realizing that one of those D-Day memorial places is located near, we decited to visit there again, next day. Before that study options for restaurants.

A vast sandy expanse. Wooden walkways aid the experience. Areas coned off for beach sports such as land sailing. It's a long way down to the "wet bit" and the pathways run out as a chap with a pushchair found out!

Ouistreham was a pleasant surprise on our Road Trip through France. Loved the location, our holiday home, found an amazing restaurant (Le Phare) and a brillant bakery. The town has also a very charming walking street. It's leading to this wonderful beach here.

At the busiest point (where the walking street leads you) it has some market and food stalls, some games and rides and a big ferries wheel. You can rent some gear for some beach and watersports as well.

The beach is really wide and long. Very clean and well taken care of. Lots of life guards on duty makes it a safe spot.

What lifts it from good to great is the wonderful boardwalk here leading west. It goes a long way, an easy flat walk. Suitable also for strollers, wheelchairs. And dogs too (not on the beach though in high season).

You pass some charming beach huts and a good handful of very interesting war memorials. Take your time reading the info plates. There's something to learn.

A great beach. Something for everybody. For beach bums, sporty people, walkers or history buffs. A great place to be. Came here every day before dinner.

The beach is quite large and sand is soft and clean. There are a few restaurants and cafes close by but limited toilet facilities. Wooden walkways at top of beach allow for gentle strolling. Saturday 21st was first car and motorbike race on beach which drew a large crowd and this showed the limitations of the facilities. Overall a nice beach with a great history.

We saw the beach sailing area on the beach, but it was a rainy day and nobody showed up. However the beach is worth to make a walk and enjoy the place.

It is difficult to imagine what the scene was like on D Day when, today, it is "just" a beautiful beach
