We really enjoyed our time at the cafe Monteverde farm. Our guide was interesting and knew so much about the industry as well as about the nature we saw around us as we toured the farm. The tour was about 2.5 hours, comprehensive and worth the money. The coffee tasting was awesome! Truly one of the best cups of coffee I have ever had.

If you’re looking for an in depth look at coffee production from a small scale coffee farm, this is the tour for you! Our tour guide, Norman, was extremely knowledgeable, so funny and kind. We started the tour in the main building with a little starter cup of joe, followed by a small presentation on the history of Monteverde and and intro into their sustainable way of life. We got to tour the grounds and visit their vegetable gardens. We met their giant pet pig, Rosita, in their barn, and ended the visit with a coffee and chocolate tasting. I love coffee but had no idea how complex and extensive the growing, cultivating, and production process was. All in all, highly recommend this tour! My family and I love supporting small business especially one so eco friendly!

Overall, a lovely place with people who love coffee and are passionate about sustainability. The tour was slow and could have easily been half as long.

Jerson was our guide (Grandson of the original farm owner) and was very very knowledgeable not only about coffee but about vegetation, birds, animals and insects! He talked us through the entire process of coffee making from start to finish.(how they make compost, start the seed, nurture the juvenile plants, all the way to to full grown plants and the roasting procedure plus much more! ) He talked about a brief history of the farm (started in the 1980's I believe as a chicken and cow farm) and was also very honest about how they run it and what goes into making it a sustainable operation. He seemed genuine and passionate about the what they are doing and made us feel very welcome and comfortable. It started raining and he offered umbrellas and showed us the trails he ran through as a child. I'm not the coffee drinker on the family but I will say I did enjoy the small amount I had at the end of the tour, especially after learning so much about the process. I would recommend this tour even if you don't enjoy coffee because the process was so interesting to learn about.
