Wonderful immersion into coffee from seed to cup
Definitely a highlight of my vacation to Costa Rica. I absolutely loved to discover the inspiring work of Cafe Monteverde. My partner and I were very fortunate to learn so much about how coffee is grown, harvested and processed, sustainability in this industry, community empowerment and environmental awareness. We loved to finish the tour with a tasting workshop of the different roasts of coffee. Our guide Jorge was amazingly knowledgeable, kind and so charming. I feel way more mindful now about coffee now. Loved everything about our afternoon in Cafe Monteverde! Thanks for this unforgettable experience.

    Learned a lot about coffee
We were impressed by the care that the growers take for their coffee plants and the environment to ensure the sustainability of their farm. Half of their land is left as forest in and around the rows of coffee plants. The leaves and soil from the forest are added to the compost that eventually is used as mulch and provides a liquid used as a fertilizer. Orange trees dot the area because they bloom at the same time as the coffee and attract pollinators. We learned about different treatments of the beans before roasting (washed, natural and "honey" processes). Our tour guide was one of the owners and you could tell how passionate he is about coffee and the environment. You can buy their coffee online and have it shipped anywhere in the world!

    Fun, tasty, and educational trip
We spent a fun and educational morning with Sergio, who was knowledgeable about coffee growing but also about the ecology and social enterprises linked to the coffee industry. It was a fascinating day where we picked coffee beans, toured the farm, saw the drying and roasting processes, and finished with a delicious coffee tasting. For a very small additional price they dropped us off and picked us up from our hotel, which I would recommend doing. I can’t wait to share the coffee I bought with family when I return home. Highly recommend cafe Monteverde for a coffee tour in the area.

    Great Tour!
We had a great tour of the farm while learning so much about the coffee growing and roasting process! It has increased my appreciation for coffee tremendously! We also really enjoyed tasting all of the different kinds of coffee in the context of understanding the different drying and roasting methods. We would definitely recommend.

    Amazing tour!
My friend and I had an amazing tour given by Hiro. He walked us through the process of coffee from the soil to picking the beans. At the end we got to try many different types of delicious coffee. Cafe Monteverde promotes sustainable practices. It was great to learn about and I would recommend the tour to anyone!

Great coffee tour and supports local businesses
Great morning on the coffee tour. We had a 1 hour walk around the coffee plantation and got to pick our own coffee beans. Then we were shown how the fruits are dried and turned into coffee beans, and after that we saw the roasting process. We tried 6 different coffees (light, medium, dark, natural etc). I would really recommend the tour. We got picked up from our hotel in Santa Elena.

    Great coffee education
Went here as part of a Gate 1 tour group. They served us a delicious lunch followed by a farm tour. We learned so much about the coffee growing and processing, and had a fun coffee tasting at the end. Very enjoyable and our guide was so knowledgeable. Great opportunity to support a local business and learn more about Costa Rica's coffee production.

Amazing experience and amazing people!!! 100% recommend!!!
I can't recommend the Cafe de Monteverde coffee tour enough! Our experience from start to finish was amazing and beyond our expectations! We bought the tour tickets that included lunch, so we were escorted to the cafeteria when we arrived about an hour before our tour started. We were served an amazing vegetarian lunch, cup of coffee, specialty drink, and a rice dessert! The service was exceptional and the food was amazing. Norman was our guide and he was so kind and friendly! He answered all of our questions and provided thorough explanations about everything he showed us throughout the tour. He has loads of experience having been there for 13 years! We learned so much about the process of making coffee (from planting all the way to roasting/serving) and this was one of the best experiences we had in all of Costa Rica! The farm is absolutely beautiful and they focus on sustainability and natural processes, which we absolutely loved. We enjoyed learning about everything from how the plants grow to making organic fertilizers and everything in between. Since we went during harvest season, we even got to pick handfuls of coffee fruits, as well as to try several different varieties of the fruits. There is also a massive Guava tree on the farm that was so beautiful and the biggest we've ever seen. At the end of the tour, you get to do a coffee tasting where you get to try all of their different varieties (natural process, honey process, light roast, medium roast, and dark roast). We bought several bags of coffee in their shop and are already thinking we may not have bought enough! A few days later, we did another coffee tour in La Fortuna, which was also fantastic in its own right, but it feels worth mentioning that we learned the most about coffee farming and had the most immersive experience at Cafe de Monteverde! Unbelievable experience overall!

Such a brilliant, educational, beautiful tour!
The farm is more like an extension of the forest, so sustainable and at one with nature. We massively enjoyed the coffee and having a tasting at the end to see the different flavour profiles and how they’re made. Our guide Norman was so friendly, funny, and knowledgeable. He’s training to be a lawyer outside of coffee tours, and his family have been coming to Cafe Monteverde for many years of coffee seasons! We wouldn’t hesitate to come again.

We did our tour at 8:30 am and were the only couple on tour. It was advertised as a 2 hour tour but given our interest and their passion for how they ran the farm the tour and coffee teasing lasted 3 1/2 hours but felt like an hour. Learned so much about how coffee beans are grown and how the trees are cared for. Cannot say enough positive things about the tour, farm, guide and tasting. Don’t waste your time with a 3 in 1 tour that other provide if you want to know about coffee this is the stop for you.

Thanks to Norman our guide, this tour was exceptional. He really connected with the various couples from all over the world who made up our group. Norman really knows his stuff and answered even the toughest questions with encyclopedic knowledge and lots of hands on experience. He kept us entertained and challenged as he took us through coffee planting from seed to the oldest of trees; harvesting as well as allowing us to pick coffee beans to our hearts content, tasting the beans off the tree, separating the bean from the fruit, sorting, drying, roasting etc etc. The best was saved for last as he gave us tastings of several kinds of coffee to help us develop our palate. Even as the overall theme was sustainability and an emphasis on understanding the local workers who pick the beans daily, it wasnt preachy or boring. We had loads of fun and were sorry to leave. The plantation is gorgeous and home to many exotic plants and birds which Norman was happy to point out to us. We got great photos.

What an experience! Jorge, our guide, was so friendly and informative. You can really feel the passion they have for coffee, their community, and their beautiful country. I truly have a new appreciation for coffee after this. The coffee was so good I bought four bags, would have been more if I could fit it in my luggage. I would recommend this tour for anyone who enjoys coffee

Excellent coffee-centric tour. Our guide spoke passionately and he was very thorough. We had a great tasting at the end. If you'd like to learn more depth on coffee production and roasting as well as the sustainable methods Cafe Monteverde is using, this is a great tour.

I've done tours previously, not coffee but chocolate tours and wasn't too exited when my husband was adamant we do this. However to my surprise that all changed. It was a really fun, educational and interesting tour. I learnt so much and our guide was fantastic. We also so the extent that Cafe Monteverde was taking to ensure they were producing these coffee in the most sustainable way... added bonus for me. Anyone heading to Monteverde, this is a must and also visit the Cafe in the town, it serves really good coffee.

Our guide, Guillermo, was not only knowledgeable in explaining the phases of coffee cultivation and harvest, but also passionate about the connecting the coffee farm to the forest (which they maintain on their land as well), the history of how their family-owned coffee company began, and the importance of community partnerships and community/local sustainability. He helped us see all of these relationships as important in our daily cup of coffee! Our tour ended with a tasting of five different coffees, including the "honey process" and "natural" beans, with an expert explanation of the differences between them. This was a highlight of our trip. We cannot recommend this specific tour enough!

Very nice farm. It's not a huge plantation and it's not only about coffee. They have very nice organic methods how they deal with all their issues at the farm.
We had a really good tour with one of the owners (Spanish and English speaking, very friendly, knowing). He took us on a walk all over the farm, explained the whole coffee growing and production process. And at the end there was a coffee tasting.
Everything top!
