Previously enthralled by a visit to Spion Kop, it was only natural to want to further one's knowledge of the 2nd Anglo / Boer war. The battle of Talana Hill was the first big confrontation, and not being to far from Spion Kop and Ladysmith, the museum; which is at the base of the hill where the battle took place,... More

A very well laid out museum, or in reality a collection of museums. We visited on the way back from Rorke's Drift. Numerous exhibits - first and Second World War, Ghandi, steam engines - something for everyone. We visited with the expectation of a traditional Sunday roast. How disappointed were we when there was hardly any food left at the... More

We visited this as part of a battlefield tour but it has a great mixture of exhibits which meant we could have spent much longer there. There's the main museum which covers various aspects of the foundation of Dundee but much more besides. Other buildings include the Victorian house of one of the founders. Another reflects the role of Gandhi... More

We erred in only budgeting 2.5 hours for this museum--we could have easily spent half a day here. It covers a wide range of topics ranging from the local battlefields, WW 1, Boer war, Coal mining, Gandhi, trains & machinery. I saw a garden restaurant, but unfortunate we did not have the time to avail ourselves. For my next visit,... More

Unfortunately we had little time to explore the very many exhibits in this extraordinary museum, or rather collection of museums. They cover life from the Anglo Zulu war to recent history providing down to earth views of ordinary life. The exhibits have been lovingly presented and draw you into the stories they tell. We spent much time in the just... More

Would highly recommend a stop at this museum which explains history of Dundee from arrival of indians who came to work in the coal mine to glass making and of course The Talana Battle .

I was in Dundee and went twice - there is masses to see here in terms of exhibits about the town, about Gandhi, the history of mining in the area, WW1, the Anglo-Boer War, the Anglo-Zulu war. So I did two visits. There's a nice little café, spaces to sit outside in the shade and look at the view, plenty... More

Great lunch can be had here after a couple of hours seeing the history of the area. Lovely, well kept grounds. Interesting exhibitions. Good shop.
