Unique experience of life hydropower ancient equipment and general knowledge on different hydropower technologies
Oct. 2015
great place to go with your kids, they can learn much about how hydropower works. Good for about 1,5 hours visit. Nice surroundings - good to be combined with a walk in the narrow historic village of Ziegenrück and some local food.

The oldest, most preserved original hydropower plant on the upper Saale!
Aug. 2014 • Friends
It is the oldest, most preserved original hydro-power plant on the upper Saale dating back to 1900's. Here you can see extensive exhibitions on hydropower, craft (fishing, rafting, mills, forges, sawmills, etc.) and the construction of dams. The highlight is the electrical voltage show that occurs twice daily.
It has an interesting history including in 1920 being purchased by the world famous company Carl Zeiss Jena as a power plant. In 1966 the power plant was opened as a technical exhibition and Museum.
The museum hosts inside a model display of the entire Saale river and one can see all the surrounding villages, mountains and valleys and buildings.
Outside one can sit in the beautiful grounds with original water wheels and turbines and the children will especially enjoy making a dam in the play area.
Admission is only € 3.00 for Adults and Children (from 6 years) € 1.00. Discounts for
Groups of 10 people and guided tours are available by appointment. After visiting this specialty museum, you can spend the rest of the day in Ziegenruck. There is so much to do from paddleboating on the Saale to the historical church to the Treffpunkt Photo Gallery with some of the most beautiful images of the area.
