We hiked all over NZ and this forest did not disappoint. if your looking for a scenic and decent hike we recommend you take the waterfall track (parking at the waterfall carpark), then take the mt isobel summit track which turns off 50m before the waterfall itself (its signed). will take you about 4 hrs return and its steep, so... We thoroughly enjoyed our half-day walk to the Dog Stream Waterfall on a calm, sunny day. We went to the waterfall on the Waterfall Track and to make it a loop, came back via the Spur Track. The waterfall was the perfect spot for a picnic lunch. It was a lovely spot to cool off after the steep walk. Both... More

We biked on a really hot day under the cool trees on the EasyRider track, the track lived upto its name as it was certainly easy. So many other tracks so will have to bike another one next time.

Although the weather wasn't great, this area was ideal for a walk and the amount of birds we saw made it even better. There are so many paths you could spend all day just strolling.

There are a number of walks in the area and all are on a map obtainable from the tourist centre near the thermal springs. It is best to check with them as when we were there a couple were closed due to logging damage. There are walks to suit all levels of ability. The gentle walks in the forest take... More

Nice walk through this area. Little disappointed that the only trees with signage appear to be foreign imports. Would be nice to see the natives and their Māori names and uses! Track signage is good and clear though.

We were lucky enough to walk the Dog Stream Waterfall track. It was quite steep with paths zig-zagging up the slope, but the 2.5 hour return was fairly accurate, although we did it in less time. Such amazing scenery.
