Looking for a place to do a tasting, it was tough during the week as most of the wineries in Stanthorpe seem to just cater for weekend visitors. Ballandean Estate is open during the week which was great! Immediately welcomed as we walked through the front door, the staff were friendly and accommodating of us and our two dogs. Lovely area out the front of the cellar door where you can sit and relax to enjoy the tasting and food. Highly recommend the gourmet platter which was amazing value and had some very tasty local produce on it. A platter "for one" is enough for two! Robyn sat down and shared a few memories with us and was super friendly. Special thanks to her and also to Lizzy who was an absolute gem preparing our platter and stopping by for yarn. The wines we tried were delicious - definitely recommended stop if you're staying in the area.

My personal favourites are the Rosé and the Fiano, but everyone has different tastes so you should go and try some for yourself. Everyone I’ve taken there have their personal favs as well. Donna knows the wines well and always makes it a great experience for the tasters.

Leah thank you for the great review! The Fiano is a delight, one of our favourite Strange Bird wines. Rosé, it just has that lovely bouquet of honey and strawberries, but still so dry and refreshing. See you again at the cellar door!

Loved the wine, history of the family and friendly staff! Highly recommend Highlands Wine Tour, and generally love lots about the Stanthorpe area, we’ll have to visit again as we couldn’t fit everything into our 3 days. Thank you!

Staff were welcoming, knowledgeable and well organised. Wines were well presented and explained, and confirmed its ranking with me of one of the two best experiences in the Granite Belt wineries. The explanation of the history and familial devotion to agriculture and viticulture is admirable. A great experience!

Ballendean Estate Wines Cellar Door was and excellent experience. One senses that Ballandean has comprehended that the Cellar Door Experience has to be an exceptional one hence the time, effort and time spent in developing their cellar door (and the Cheese Room).
The manner of the greeting, the manner in which a visitor is navigated through the wines available for tasting and the actual wines is arguably the best experience in the region. Special mention to Robyn whose passion, knowledge and warmth just added to our experience.
A couple of stand outs - the Merlot & Saperavi

Covid safe tasting. Seated at a barrel away from others. Attentive service, offering tastings of the wines we had chosen. Tasting is $5 pp but if you make a purchase is not included. I found the wines are getting a bit pricey all over the Granite Belt.

We are glad that you had a good tasting experience! There's quite a broad pricing spectrum across the Granite Belt. Some wineries price their wines according to demand, up to $100 a bottle for limted edition wines. We try and keep our pricing consistent but reasonable for our estate and premium wines.
Hope to see you again soon!

We were due to arrive at 3pm. We called 3 hours in advance to ask if it would be OK that we would be around 20 minutes late. We were told over the phone this wouldn't be an issue. We arrived at 3.15pm and were seated. We had paid $80 for a picnic basket and the picnic basket included a bottle of wine so we were able to do a tasting prior to selecting our wine. It was more of a shotting session rather than a tasting. We had barely taken a sip of the first before the waitress was at our table pressuring us to pour the second. She was clearly stressed and quite rude. I appreciate that with covid, space and time is tight, though if there was an issue they could have told us over the phone and to be honest, we would have gone elsewhere. Perhaps we had been spoilt by some of the smaller, more attentive and to be honest better quality wineries we had visited in earlier the day.
After we had been forced to select our wine in under ten minutes we were told to 'go around the back' for our picnic. It really wasn't the romantic setting we were hoping. When we realised the 'back' was behind the toilets, stunk and we had only been given a crap plastic picnic 'blanket' barely big enough to fit on on the dry grass, we decided to sit out front on the tables. The picnic food itself was lovely but to be honest the whole experience prior had already ruined it.
Overall this wasnt a great experience. It may be one of the most popular in the area but I have no idea why.

Since moving to the area in November last, I have visited both the Winery and Restaurant on four separate occasions. Both Red and & White wines produced on site are much better than others I have tasted over the last 50 years. Friendly staff make wine tasting very enjoyable without any fuss. I will continue to keep my home stores filled. The Barrel Room restaurant, food and staff are all I need to encourage a regular visit with local wines to enjoy with meals. Cheers. P Kav

On a chilly winter day we came inside to a warm welcome, a fireplace that radiated comfort and delightful samples of wine that exceeded expectations
Graham in particular is a friendly, knowledgeable and charming host. He knows his wines and loves the area. And the gourmet platter was yum and worth it. A great experience

Thank you Dean! Our hope for the wine lounge is that people see it as a place to bring your friends and family, sink into a leather lounge beside the fire, indulge in a wine flight of your choice, a Strange Bird varietal, and a grazing platter.

One of the best meals I have had in a long time! The team we so accommodating with my dietary restrictions. While I was disappointed that the porchetta had run out by the time we ordered that lamb dish I ended up having was superb. My wife loved her quail main. The service was extremely professional with a wonderful personal and friendly touch. To top it off, the wines we had on recommendation were so good we immediately went and bought some to take home. Our only complaint was that the restaurant is 4 hours drive from our place so we can't just 'pop in'. Can't wait to return.
