Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is the entrance of the Old Town, which was built in 1530. It connects the new modern and the old parts of the town. It’s worth a short visit before you go into the Centro Storico, wandering the narrow streets.

Was impressed with the history and sea views one can get in this lovely town
The full visit can take half a day if one arrives at 9AM.
On a Saturday after 11AM is almost impossible to enjoy the visit

This is the entrance to the old historical town center. Is the first piece of art you will see visiting this beautiful town. If you think it is beautiful, well, you don't know what is waiting for you over the wall.

The Arch of the Marquis, or Grand Port, was built in 1530, and became the only entrance to the old city when the walls were completed in 1780.
Inside you will see a fresco depicting the crucifixion of Christ dating back to the end of the sixteenth century.
Today the Marchesale Arco divides the modern city from the medieval one. It leads to the Centro Storico with its narrow streets and small Piazze.

This Archway is situated near the Via Triana Bridge and is the gateway to the old town. Well maintained and situated near a boulevard of trees with restaurants beneath. Close to the Tourist Information Office which is open until 10pm and the staff there are very helpful.

This was our first trip to Italy’s Adriatic coast and we were pleasantly surprised with Polignano a Mare and hope to return some day.

In medieval times it constituted the only access gate to the city and still today it delimits the entrance to the ancient village. Polignano is waiting to be discovered: once past the arch the magic begins!

Sixteenth century arch, once a door with a drawbridge to access the central nucleus of the town.
It is characterized by a small church at the top and a painting of the crucifixion.
