    Great swimming hole
We went in the morning, (around 10AM) parked at the top of the hill and entered in the second entrance (based on advice here). We swam in the swimming hole but didn't feel brave enough to slide down waterfall. Was very refreshing and beautiful. When we arrived there were only about 6 folks in the pool so very nice. Families seemed to be heading up to the falls. The nice thing was the place was big enough to not feel too crowded Until the tours hit then it was a big like disneyland with folks jumping into the pool from above. We left then.. So go but just try to hit it right.

Beautiful falls but be prepared for a bit of a hike over rough stones
The waterfall is beautiful and very close to Uvita and easy to get to. People with physical limitations and older people should be aware that the path to the waterfall includes fairly steep, rough stone stairs (with railings to hold on to) and a part of the path goes through shallow water and over rough rocks to the get to the falls. The falls are lovely and it was fun to watch people slide down the rock slide. We went on a Sunday afternoon around 3:00 and it was fairly crowded. The cost was $4 per person. There are restrooms at the top and a small restaurant. It was nice to bring our dog.

    Use the upper entrance!
We visited on a warm sunny day in Uvita and enjoyed our stay. We entered through the second, upper entrance (not through the butterfly garden) and enjoyed easy access to all of the waterfalls. Afterwards, we visited the nearby Bear Garden and it was lovely.

So much fun swimming, jumping, sliding
So much fun! Sliding off the waterfall, jumping from the high platform, and swimming in the pools. We all loved this and it's close to town, not expensive and it wasn't crowded before 10am. Recommend the entrance off the main road- not the one through the "butterfly garden" because you have access to a different jumping platform. Recommend going before 10am when bigger groups show up.

This place was awesome! The owners of the restaurant where you pay and park are great. The hike is pretty short. Wear sturdy shoes for some river crossings and rocking terrain. The natural waterslide was a blast! And the smoothie they give you after included in your entrance fee was delicious! This was one our kids’ favorite activities of the trip.:)

    Must do for Teens
These falls are not hard to get to- and they don’t require a long hike. Win win! For those of us that are less adventurous it was a beautiful stop and a quick splash in the pools. For the teens it was a lot of fun. There was a great jumping platform and a fun natural water slide. This “slide” was much steeper than any we’ve done before. Unlike some of the sliding rocks in NC I don’t think this is quite right for young children- but great for teens.

    Don’t miss this fun waterfall!
Super fun and worth every colones spent to get in. (C 2,000 or $4 per person) We had 14 in our group ages 14 to 76 and everyone had a blast. Wear water shoes so you can freely move around while protecting your feet and not slip. Our non-4x4 made it easily up the hill, parking was free and easy and the adventure down the sleep hill was not an issue for our active group. I highly recommend this side adventure!

We drove up the steep road and parked and paid $4.00 to use the steep steps down to the base of the falls. You can park for free down stream and hike up. Once at the river, you have to scramble over rocks and boulders to get to the pool. There is really no place to leave your belongings. I used a carabiner to hang our daypacks to a root, and that worked pretty well. The water was refreshing and the site beautiful. The allure was to climb up the slippery cliff wall and jump into the pool. It's a difficult, slippery, and dangerous climb. If you must climb, I highly recommend that you wear reef shoes. Diving is NOT recommended. The pool is not very deep, so talk to locals before jumping in. There are no facilities as in toilets or changing rooms at the pool. The closest one would be to climb up the steps to the restaurant at the top of the steps. For people who cannot swim well, or who have health or balance issues, keep in mind that there are no life guards, and no easy way out if you get into trouble. Late afternoons bring larger crowds.

The 6 of us went there with the car. There is a place to park the car next to the dirt road when you arrive. You enter through some kind of a bar where is the sign that you have to pay, but when we were entering there was nobody to charge us. We literally had to look for a person who would take our money ($5 per person) but we could easily just pass because there is nobody to check if you paid. We got an impression that the waitress took the money for herself. The way to arrive down to the waterfall is ok, pretty steep but not to hard to pass. When we arrived down there were bunch of people all around with backpacks and clothes everywhere. If you come with the car, maybe its better to leave all the stuff in the car since down there is a mess and you can't monitor your things so its super easy that something disappear. If you want to make nice photos of the waterfall which is beautiful itself, you better come very early in the morning since there are so many people in the water, climbing on the rocks, jumping in the water that it was impossible to get a photo of the waterfall itself without other people in your photo. The place is worth staying for one or maximum two hours. If i knew all of this i would come a lot earlier (we were there around 10am), enter without paying, make some photos, take a swim and continue on.

We visited just before New Year. It is a lovely spot and a quick walk from the parking lot. It is a private property and there is an entry fee. When we visited it was very crowded and it was difficult to sit and enjoy the water. Teenagers and young people in particular have a great time on the slide.I would recommend bringing a bathing suit and water shoes.

Admission to this beautiful park is only $4. Don't miss the small butterfly enclosure as soon as you enter. Then enjoy a scenic walk down a jungle path to the waterfall area. I would not recommend sliding down the large waterfall, but many people do and it's exciting yet nerve-wracking to watch. Our group of 6 adults spent most of our time at the first swimming hole – it has a small waterfall and a fun yet safe jump of about 6 meters. The vegetation is beautiful here and it wasn't too crowded when we visited, even on a Saturday afternoon. Enjoy your trip to Catarata Uvita!

Uvita Waterfall (Catarata Uvita) is a favourite amongst locals and tourists. The photos say it all. The area is nicely shaded, has a couple of jumping off spots. two natural pools and a butterfly garden that reveals all the stages of a butterfly’s life. Get here early for the best spot.
Entry Fee: $2 USD per person includes access to Butterfly Garden
Amenities: Restaurant, parking, washrooms and shower available. Well maintained trail.

What an awesome spot!! Pretty easy trek to reach and suitable to most ages and activity levels. The inclusion of the butterfly garden is a nice, fun extra. The staff at the little cafe was super friendly and the foods we tried were good and reasonably priced.

Open during covid closures. A great way to spend the day with friends or family. Deep cool pools to jump into, rapids to sit in, and waterfalls to slide down.
Only 1. 2 km from the main corner in uvita, an easy walk, although the last 300 yards will make you happy you didnt skip leg day. At least its all down hill on the way back!
At only 4 bucks a person, this is money well spent. The resaurant at the top was not open (covid closure?) But in the past had great smoothies and salad plates.
A butterfly consevatory is at the end (or beginning depending on which entrance you use) bring watershoes to make scrambling over rocks and down rivers easier.

Amazing experience. Stunning waterfall and pretty pools. The place has showers and toilets also which was great to use after swimming. Would reccomend going morning / lunch time as sun hits the water then and is before waterfall tours arrive. The butterfly garden is an added bonus included in ticket 2,000 colones

The waterfall was nice and lovely water. But please please please choose your entrance wisely. We are a young couple with good physical health, but if you have more difficulty, please choose the upper entrance with the restaurant (not butterfly garden).
I really think this was absurd, but in all the blogs I have read it was stated that also from the butterfly garden, the path to the waterfall was easy and short. Not anymore, after a few min, you have to cross through the river, via the rocks and stones, so through the water, and hike and climb your way up to the main pool with the waterfall. While on the other side, there is literally a walking trail, like bridge/path to the waterfall. Well if you try to enter it, there is security telling you that you can’t because you got access via the entrance with the butterfly garden and not via them.
I found it ridiculous that these guys just deny access as well to people with young kids and elderly people who just thought they would visit a nice waterfall with an easy trail.
For us, OK, we were fine, took it easy and slow and were minding our steps, but on the way back we saw a family and once they saw the route, they decided not to go. Which I completely understood, but then you already paid entrance. So think about your physical condition before picking the entrance. They are rude and won’t let you use the safe trail, but they will just send you climbing without thinking twice.

Waterfall was really nice, we enjoyed some quiet time before the big tour groups came around 11 in the morning.
