Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited the island as part of an island hopping trip. This was the only island we really wanted to visit due to hearing about the views from the viewpoint. They didn’t disappoint!! The trek takes around 15/20 mins and can be pretty tough if your not used to exercise. Remember take plenty water, it’s worth the hike 100% the views at the top over the surrounding islands are breathtaking 😍

That moment you saw your first love. Yep feels exactly the same. Went here twice and still awed by the scenery. The best view I've ever had from a hill. Never felt the same for other hills I've hiked. Once would never be enough. Come again or stay longer!

We were in Mabul for scuba diving and snorkelling. While we were there, we were told that we shouldn't miss going to Bohey Dulang for its amazing views/scenery. I had also read reviews of Bohey Dulang on Tripadvisor, which were mainly great reviews. `Bohey' means water, and `Dulang' means tray or a shallow bowl. So Bohey Dulang means a shallow bowl filled with water.......which is what the bay of bohey dulang looks like in the photos that we saw.
After hearing/reading great reviews, the night before we left Mabul island, we decided to go to Bohey Dulang the next day. We made arrangements via a tour operator to go there. We were told it would cost us RM 150 per person which had to be paid up before the arrangements could be confirmed. So we did.
That night, it rained very heavily. It was still raining until about 8.30am. When we met with the tour organizer, he told us that we would not be able to hike up to the peak of Bohey Dulang because the trek would be slippery and unsafe. We asked whether we could cancel the trip, seeing as the main attraction for Bohey Dulang was it's views from the peak. The tour operator declined any cancellation or even returning us part of our payment.
So, we went anyway, despite the non-conducive weather. We left Semporna at 10.00am when it was still a bit overcast. And arrived at Bohey Dulang around 11.00am. There was a nice pier....and yes, the beach looked quite nice with light green clear water. But from the pier, there wasnt that much live coral that we could see. And after excellent snorkelling & diving at Mabul, it didnt seem that special. So we decided not to snorkel. And because of the overcast weather, the beach/bay did not present the amazing colours that you see in the pictures on advertisements of Bohey Dulang.
At the end of the peer, there is a centre for research/seeding of Giant Clams. But that was all there was to do on an overcast day.
So my advice is, do not book a trip to Bohey Dulang in advance. Make sure the weather is good before deciding to go, otherwise chances are you will be hugely disappointed, just as we were.

Short hike with mild incline in some parts. The view at the top is well worth it! Drink water cause you’ll sweat a lot. We saw a lot of Chinese people dressing up all fancy for the hike. Don’t do that lol

The Bohey Dulang island is usually done as a day tour with snorkeling at nearby islands. It is pretty crowded and touristy. The scenery from the overlook is nice, but the snorkeling isn't anything too special.
I wouldn't waste time on this tour if you have to come here all the way from Kota Kinabalu. This is more for those who have a spare day when they can't do diving.
I was able to book it at 140RM, which is about the most it's worth. Send me msg for details.

I visited this place on March 2018. The climb to the top peak took about 30 minutes. I went there during hot weather. You need to wear summer cap or bring an umbrella because when you reach the top it will so hot, about 37 to 41 degree Celsius. Bring enough water. When you reach the top, the view is so beautiful and amazing. Worth the climb.

View from the top peak of Bohey Dulang island is so beautiful. Really worth the climb. Once you arrive at the jetty, you will need to climb up to the top peak for about 30 minutes depending of your stamina and hiking speed.
The top peak area is so small and so crowded especially during weekend. So if you want to go here during not so busy period, go during weekdays (from Monday to Thursday). This place gets so many visitors during Friday, Saturday, Sunday and public holiday.

The hike is about 600m and it is kind of steep. The trails are well made. I can assure you that you would not regret coming here.
Tips:
1) go to this island early in the morning before it gets full with other tourist and hot
2) prepare some water

I am not someone who is fit and neither prepared for this. First time hiking. Nevertheless the experience was overall good. The mountain is steep climbing for 500M. The first 100M is ok. There are slippery areas and PLEASE WEAR PROPER SHOES. Although you can rent shoes for RM5 my friends having difficulty finding right shoes size. I was wearing old casual sport shoes. Being light bag. Mineral water is provided by agent.
Family that comes with small children please be extra careful. This a steep hiking for 500M. The tourist local and domestic were very encouraging in giving motivation to inspire to reach the top. The minute you reach the peak the magnificent views are breathtaking.
Climbing down is another challenge and be careful with your steps. We didn't time as we follow our own pace. The boat waited for us to next island Matabuan and Sibuan which are beautiful. Be ready with camera.
Overall experience was worth it ! A recommended place to visit.

Hi, I was wondering if there is any option to get there without turistic packages. We want to go on our own, not with tour guides.
Thanks!

there are paper works and registrations to do done by the tour agent for the trip as its a protected area. get a registered tour operator and you will be fine.

Hi, can i just walk in to any tour operators in Semporna if I want fo go to Bohey Dulang? Or Do I need to book in advance?
Written 28 December 2018
Most of the tour/ dive operators in Semporna will have island hopping trips to Bohey Dulang. As it is within the marine park, there are also snorkel and dive options. Usually the hike up takes place in the morning, so the remaining day will be other water activities.

Hello, I have been researching and have found what part of sabah to stay in confusing. If I want to visit Bohey Dulang and do some island hoping for a few days, is is best to stay in Tawau, Semporna, or somewhere else entirely? Thanks so much for all your help, I’m an experienced traveler but for some reason I’ve found this region a bit confusing!

Stay at Semporna. It takes another 2hrs to get from Tawau to Semporna. So if you want to do island hopping, Semporna is the place. There are many hotels, inn and homestay. Most island hopping tour starts at 830am. So, stay at Sipadan Inn 1, 2 & 3 or Scuba Junkie, they are near (about 5mins walk) to the jetty.
