The birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi -such an important place but so disappointed to see that it's maintained so poorly.
The museum is dark and dusty. There is a memorial to Kasturba Gandhi - the way to it is littered with garbage. Attached pictures will illustrate this. Staff were uninterested and on their phones
The approach to the Mandir is through a congested locality with extremely narrow streets. Walking here is advisable. The approach roads are very very dirty and strewn with garbage.
Can't help but recollect Gandhi's views on cleanliness. He would most certainly be distressed.

A place every Indian must visit. See Mahatma Gandhi's birth place.
The simple house in the crowded street. The room where he was born, the study room, the simple kitchen, the museum, his personal collections, books. Good photo opportunity

Porbandar is the birth Place of Father of our Nation – Mahatma Gandhiji, and the monument Kirti Mandir is built in the memory of this great man. It attracts tourists from all over the World. There is Kasturba dham behind the Kirti Mandir. This is a unique Place where the monuments of Mahatma Gandhi, knows as Bapu, and his wife Kasturba are adjacent to each other. The famous building where Mahatma Gandhi was born is adjacent to the Kirti Mandir The foundation stone of modern structure and attractive Kirti Mandir was laid in 1947 by late Shree Darbar Gopaldas Desai and later the great donor and renowned businessmen, Shree Nanjibhai Kalidas Mehta of Porbandar renovated it. The Iron man of India, Shree Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel inaugurated and kept open this place for public on May 27, 1950. The height of the temple is 79 feet symbolizing the lifespan of Gandhiji.
Porbandar city is a seaside town of Gujarat. The city also has a mythological association. It is believed that Sudama, Lord Krishna's classmate resided in the city. Porbandar was thus known as Sudamapuri. The Kirti Mandir, Porbandar has a memorial of Mahatma Gandhi and contains a library with books on Gandhism, a spinning hall, a children's nursery and a lovely prayer hall. In the prayer hall of the Kirti Mandir of Gujarat prayers of all faith are regularly organized.
Jamjodhpur, Shree Madhavpur Girnara Bhraman Gnyati: Community Hall at Madhvpur Ghed are near by places.
This place is really very well maintained. I have visited this place thrice.. once in my childhood with my father mother, then with my friends and then with my wife and kids and still i want to go again to relive the memories of the greatest person on earth - M K GANDHI, our beoved Bapu, Our Rashtrapita.. Because I don't want to forget that there was a man born on this earth with handful of bones and shaked the british empire... We love you Bapu!
You can reach here By road: ST and private buses come here from Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Dwarka, Veraval, Jamnagar and Junagadh, among others. and By rail: Porbandar has a railway station which has connecting trains to places like Rajkot, Ahmedabad and Mumbai.
There are some good hotel around to stay if you need to stay..

It is the birth place of Mohan Das Karam Chand Gandhi. Father of the nation. The simplicity of the house is still maintained. Even on a very hot day the house is very cool. Various articles used by the family are preserved in it.

This is the Place where Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on 2nd October,1869. People of Porbandar and Maharja of Porbandar decided to construct an ideal memorial at his birth place. The entire haveli was purchased from family member of Mahatma Gandhi and even Gandhiji also made an Agreement and same is displayed at Museum of Kirti Mandir. The foundation stone of Kirti Mandir was laid down in life time of Mahatma in 1947 and was inaurgated and open for Nation 27.5.1950 by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. A nice memorial and first attraction must be visited by every tourist visiting Porbandar.

This is not exactly a temple but Mahatma Gandhi's birth place which is turned into a shrine. It is definitely worth one visit. The house has an old-world charm that is unique to Gujarat.

The restoration and digitization project done by the present relatives of Gandhijee in collaboration with Bank of Baroda has brought out some very interesting photos to the public. The most visited room in the erstwhile residence of Bapu is the room where he was born. It is the easiest to miss too. It is to the left after the entrance.
While visiting do not miss the first floor, which is where all the old restored photos are on display.
I loved the surrounding streets of the place. It is truly old Gujrat, where time seems to stand still. The neighbourhood buildings would be at least 150 years old.

The Mahatma's birthplace was in a very interesting house and I was given an explanation in English by someone from the archaeological society. I thought the mandir very disappointing, built in cheap concrete rather than something beautiful to honour this incredible man.

Are there any toilets here or is there a clean restaurant nearby where we can have a drink and use the toilets?

Kirti Mandir has clean toilets but I am unsure about a nearby restaurant to have drinks.

Guys - Any idea where to park the car near Kirti Mandir ? I am concerned as Porbandar roads are very narrow. I don't mind to park 2/3 Kms before if good parking like shopping malls are available.
Written 21 September 2015
One of the best parking spots is right opposite Sudhama Temple. It's about 1.5 Km from Kirti Mandir.
