Underwhelmed, waited a while before anyone noticed us. $20 charge for tasting experience of up to 8 wines. We were only interested in about five wines and thought $20 a bit expensive for the experience. Employee seemed disinterested in attending to us and we left without paying for the experience. What a difference when we visited Mandela winery. The person we spoke to was very entertaining and we all thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Only $10 each for the tasting and we ended up buying eight bottles of wine there.

I booked for a large group family gathering of 18 and the person handling my booking made it very hard for us to book, we had to pre order from a set menu 2 weeks in advance which meant I had to chase my group up for their orders. Its understandable that the reason is for catering purposes, however on the day of the booking. We had the table from 1pm but we only got served the 1st courses at 2.30pm! They weren't taking our orders, so why did it had to take so long? The kitchen clearly can't handle large bookings even with a preorder 2 week ahead! I had to call them multiple times to top up our water, and given the amount of wine we ordered, the waitering staff should try to keep us hydrated instead of ignoring us.
About the food, the food weren't fantastic or good for the price we are paying for 3 courses. My octopus carpaccio and braised duck agnolotti was horrible tasting. The slow cooked pork fillet was horrible. So far the only thing we were impressed with is the view and location, the reputation of the winery may be long standing, however I wouldn't go back for the food at Locale!!

I called in for one of their $10 wines tastings.

One can choose 8 wines from a generous selection of options including red white and desert wines.

My female server was very knowledgeable and friendly.

The wines were very enjoyable.

Phenomenal winery. It’s about a 45 minute drive outside of Melbourne. I would hire a driver or a Uber. We had a nice walk around the grounds and then had lunch in the cellar door. It was great! One of the most famous wineries in the area. Great products and service!

Today was our first experience of the Yarra and I'm so glad it was at this storied winery. We visited mid-week so it was quiet and were served by a very pleasant hostess. We tried half a dozen wines with the highlight being the trio of Pinot Noirs (see photo).
We also tried the cheeses of which the highlight was undoubtedly the Epoisses closely followed by the Le Dauphin (see photos).
Certainly well set up and professionally run, and definitely worth a visit.

Wine tasting in Yarra, what could be better? This large winery has a beautiful shop with lots of gourmet gifts. They have a cheese counter where you can purchase a tasting plate to go with your wine. Wendy was our wine server and she was awesome, knowledgeable and fun. Perhaps because it was a Wednesday and not too busy...we had lots of time to visit and talk about the wines. I really enjoyed many of the varieties they make. This is quite a large winery. They sell their wines all over Australia and also export to the USA.

The young lady at the Cellar Door could not have been more helpful, friendly and so very easy to talk to - a real asset to this business. The wines also were great - a very good range, and we were very happy a lovely sweet wine! We will definitely be repeat customers. Congratulations De Bortoli - loved it! Thank you.

We visited the restaurant for lunch and were not disappointed. The restaurant is elegant overlooking the vineyards and the menu was excellent. The food was delicious and wine was excellent. A visit to the cellar door afterwards did not disappoint.

Had lunch at the Winery Restaurant approximately a week ago. Absolutely brilliant. Beautiful restaurant set in the grounds of the Winery overlooking the Yarra Valley. The restaurant is spacious and comfortable, but of course, the main thing that people are interested in is the food, it is outstanding, an excellent Menu with numerous choices, the food is beautifully presented and most importantly, delicious. We were a group of four we had an entree followed by a main and three of the group chose a dessert, we also drank a bottle of wine and a carafe of wine with the total cost being $370, very reasonable for the quality of the restaurant, the food and drink. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant if looking for a special place to eat to compliment a great day in the Valley.
