We visited this place during our round trip in Mexico. This ruined mayan town is not very large, but is one of few who had a moat around it. The architecture is interesting, with vaulted corridor still intact. Big pyramid of Becan is in good...More

Of all the smaller ruins near Calakmul, this was far and away my favorite. The scale and relationship of the buildings was just magnificent. Be sure to go through the tunnel to get from the first area to the second area with the two pyramids....More

After visiting the overwhelming pyramids and other public buildings of the Mayan Ruins of Chichen Etza , these small archaeological sites at Xpujil, Chincanna, and Becan in Campeche State were a treasure in their own way. For one thing, the monuments and sites are considerably...More

If you're in the area, definitely stop at the Becan Ruins. This is a much smaller site than Calakmul obviously but really a great site. When we visited there was only one other couple there and it was well maintained and worth a couple hours.

We had no expectations, just wanted to take a break from driving from Bacalar to Campeche; it was wonderful! We were almost alone there and took a tour (approx. 300mxn). You can climb on many ruines (also very high ones) and take great pictures. The...More

Becan is a relatively unvisited site. It is unique in that it is surrounded by a moat and a series of wall. The buildings are in very good shape and many of them still have remnants of the original colors and stucco facades.

Lots of structures amongst the greenery, surprising number of columns in architecture, not very frequented by tourists so we had it to ourselves. Really memorable walk past history.

Better than Chicanna. Lots to see. It's fun the be able to explore them in depth. Could stand to remove a few tres tho so we can see the ruins.

The ruins were interesting with a big climb to the top of the main structure. Local kids offered to 'watch our car' for a price in the car park which we declined. After leaving the ruins the kids seemed disappointed in the pesos in change...More

Becan is besides Rio Bec the most important archeological site in the Mayan stile known as "Rio Bec". While the latter is not really open to the public, and not officially accessible, Rio Bec is near a federal highway and a small village. The splendid...More

I stayed at the hotel called Maya Balam, really nice place in Xpujil. Still 2 hours away from Calakmul, but is the best you can get with not much $. Xpujil is like 10k away from Becan and you don't need a reservation in... More
