Really impressed, didn't expect there to be so much to explore and although the castle is in ruins you can still climb and walk around much of the place. Definitely worth a visit.

More to see than you would imagine from the exterior, which is impressive and dominates the area. English Heritage do a great job and it's almost worth joining just for this castle.

Quite a climb to the top of this castle but well worth it for the view across The Medway and across to the cathedral.

So many castles are just ruins but Rochester castle still has all the walls and stairs and even some floors. OK the roof has gone but it has all been restored so that you can explore the castle and really see how it was in its original form.

A truly majestic edifice situated right on the river Medway. Gives an excellent feel of Norman military architecture - plus of course the story of the siege and re built round turret.

Whilst in the area stopped with two young kids to explore the castle. Cost around £15 for one adult and two children which is not too bad to help maintaining the castle ruins. Fantastic views over Rochester from multiple windows and the roof. Lots of information boards around and a audio guide is available for £1 Lots of steep stairs... More

We went with our two young daughters during half term. It was cold and windy but a clear sunny day. Some of the views from the castle were just stunning. You could see the river, cathedral and more. Some of the steps were steep and narrow so care should be taken. You could really imagine how it used to be... More

Lovely view, like a lot of castles ruined and not much to see, as such armour wise but good for the imagination can be awkward for those who have trouble walking. Look at pigs in a different light when you look at the history of the castle

Situated overlooking the River Medway, the Cathedral, and a few steps from the historic centre of Rochester, the castle is a must see. It offers a keep that is open to the public with a large grassed area for picnics and just enjoying the views. Check local news as the castle is a popular venue for music and Dickens related...
