This is one of our favourite places to walk in the Gruyeres region. Le Moleson has a number of great summer/autumn walks, either down into Gruyeres or down into Moleson Village from Plan-Francey.
The walks can be steep and the paths a bit treacherous, we found after 3km of walking down steep slopes our knees started to hurt a bit! But for keen walkers this is a must see mountain for walking. The funicular up to Plan-Francey is magnificent, and the cable car to the summit is just as spectacular.

I climbed the via ferrata with my 15 year old son. We took the route Le Face and it was not for the faint hearted. Gloves aren't provided when you hire the harness but are a must if you don't want hands like minced beef at the end. The route was physically demanding but safe throughout. Just moments where the awkward safety loops didn't travel well and it saps your strength. It felt like such an achievement to do this. I'll be back to do the Plier route. A real life event doing this with my son. And only CHF 4 plus CHF 18 to go on it and hire the kit.

We went to Gruyeres on a day trip from Lausanne by train. It is not difficult to figure out how on the SBB app. We took first a regional train and then a local one. The trip took about an hour and 20 min. the logistics of seeing Le Moleson were a bit more complex, which is why I'm giving the detail. After visiting the cheese factory, we took a local bus to Moleson-sur-Gruyeres (bought the ticket on SBB app; bus stop across from cheese factory; schedule on the bus stop sign). When we got there, the funicular was just across the parking lot and we bought a round trip ticket for the funicular and the cable car to the top. In retrospect, we only needed one way on the funicular because we walked down from the mid-point, Plan-Francy. The round trip tickets are quite $$, so if you are on a budget consider skipping the summit and hike from the mid-point or if you are very fit and not afraid of heights, hike to the summit. We planned on doing some hiking at the summit, but all of the trails there are above tree line and very steep and my boyfriend does not like heights, so that was out. The trail descriptions we read of All Trails were not clear on that point. We took the cable car back to the mid-point and saw that there were many trails starting there, including one to Gruyeres. We ate lunch that we brought with us outside and then walked down to Moleson-sur- Gruyeres. The trail was beautiful and only steep at the very bottom (I was glad to have hiking poles) . Several people were hiking up, but really huffing and puffing. However, anyone who is fit and has proper gear could hike up. All in all, I feel that we need to go back now that we understand all of the logistics and options. We thought Le Moleson was much nicer than the town of Gruyeres, which although pretty, is very touristy (bus-loads of tourists, lots of souvenir shops, many fondue restaurants with similar menus), but it all depends on what you like. It was a beautiful day in the 60's and I thought it was better spent on the mountain.

We hiked from Moléson-sur-Gruyeres through Plan Francey, Gros Plane and up the Tremetta route to the summit on a warm early summer day. We passed the ubiquitous cows with bells, high meadows full of wildflowers, small patches of snow, and also some places to refill our bottles with the best water you will ever taste. It took us about 4 1/2 hours or so with plenty of stops for photos. As you near the top you’ll be rewarded with jaw dropping scenery. The restaurant terrace at the top is great for enjoying the views with a well-earned craft beer. Then you can ride the funicular and teams back down to where you started. Some folks also do the opposite, trams up and walking down, but I prefer to earn my views. :-) it’s a bit convoluted to get to using public transportation from Montreux— allow at least 90 minutes to 2 hours— so start early so you aren’t rushed. The bus and train up are also enjoyable.

We visited Moléson-sur-Gruyères in a sunny day of October. The ticket up to the top is 35 CHF return trip which includes funicular and cable car. With halfare card the reduction is only 2 CHF. However, not expensive considering the lovely views from there. There is a restaurant with a terrace to the top where you can eat/drink.
Nearby there are also gruyère cheese factory, cailler chocolate factory and château de gruyère with its lovely surroundings.

Would definitely recommend a visit to this place. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking with a little bit of snow. Wasn't snowing then and in fact weirdly enough in early Dec 2017 the snow had started melting even. The restaurant at the halfway point was closed for renovations. Can't quite remember when it's due to reopen but it was not meant to be closed for too long. Went back down to eat at the one at the car park.
Didn't make it to the top owing to budget limitations. The ticket we had was only up to halfway. The second leg by cable car would have added another CHF22 which we hadn't budgeted for such a large group. Climbing up would have taken more time than we had daylight, bearing in mind the need to climb up then back down.
If you do decide to walk up and down, please be sure to dress up appropriately. The slightly snowy (melting) slopes would be a bit slippery at this time of the year so be extra careful. Hoping to do this trek next time and will plan to get there early enough to allow for this.

Visited the Moleson last summer. Took the funicular to the summit.
Spectacular views once on top. Given that it was the summer it was warm even at 2,000 metres altitude.
Food at the summit was reasonably priced (by Swiss standards) and very tasty. Overall an enjoyable experience.
Make sure to visit the cheese factory at the bottom and try the "degustation".
Switzerland is spectacular, especially in the summer.

This most beautiful mountain top view is just thing you come to see in Switzerland. The park area has much to do like many hiking tours & cable car rides up the mountains if you do not like hiking, like myself. The cows with their bells & the goats that come around add to the paradise all around you. There is a restaurant at the top of mountain so it’s really an unforgettable experience.

I am not the type who go for Mountain hiking. I am more a beach goer than a Mountain hiker. Going up from the Car Park to top it was easy as we took the cable cars. We had a magnificent view from top, After a few photos and some drink at the cafe, we went down. On the way down, we decided to walk (I can't remember if we took path 3 or path 7). It was a very torturing for me as we have to go thru downward hill slope. I think if it wasn't because of me, my partner would have reached down in 30 minutes or less. My tiredness and complaint was gone the moment I saw the "Bob-luge". Ha ha ha ha ... I guess you can't stop the inner child of me from being excited seeing a sleigh ride. We took 10 rides (5 for each person). It was really fun when you try to reached the bottom without being closely followed by people behind you. The experience is worth all my nagging, complaining and body aches.

Le Moleson is perfect for day activities. It can be reached easily via public transport from Gruyeres. You can choose to walk till the summit as well.
it is definitely great option for people avoiding tourist places as it tend to have less crowds.
There are bob sleigh and other activities too.

I'm interested in sledging on 7th January. I'm a bit confused on prices- it'd be 1 adult 1 child. Is the furnicular included if we get a 1 day sledging pass? Is the sledge hire refundable? Last question- how scary is it?? My son is six. Thank you!
