A beautiful and fascinating old town
We have just completed a week in Rhodes and have really enjoyed it. We stayed inside the old town which was a real bonus as we had easy access to all the shopping, eating and tourist attractions. Rhodes Old Towm is fascinating full of history and great architecture. Eating places are plentiful and generally very good. The town beach is within walking distance and is part of an attractive sea front. Rhodes old town is a great place for strolling and relaxing with plenty of interesting things to do

    Nice walk in different time
There are so many positives about Rhodes Town....it's simply beautiful. Walking inside the gates is just lovely... getting lost in all the side streets and finding old buildings, fountains, flowers. You can eat drink and relax in there. Stunning - you have to visit.

    Pleasant shopping experience.
Area has many restaurants that are located at every turn and corner. The area has a variety of quality shops selling leather, pillows and t-shirts. Narrow streets get crowded at peak times when cruise ships are in port.

    Sparta restaurant/bar
We did a day trip over from Turkey to Rhodes. We found Old Town Rhodes was a beautiful place, however very busy and very hot. We were invited into a restaurant/bar in the central square for a drink. We asked for prices for a beer 4 times. And each time. (We realise this now) we were asked did we want large or small. (Thinking pint or half pint… and still no price mentioned). Obviously we went for large ( thinking again a pint). When it arrived, it came in a large boot shaped glass. We giggled thinking this is going to cost us…. Maybe €10 a glass as it was large and possibly x2 pints. We were on a time scale as we had a boat to catch so we knew that we couldn’t drink it all in time. However some passer-by’s approached us and said be careful as they hadn’t asked price either and they were charged €18. Disgusting!! But we accepted that so when we eventually asked for the bill, we were horrified to be charged €22 per glass. €88 in total. We queried it but the guy would not budge on the price. So please beware. Make sure you know the price first. The bar was called SPARTA

We went, we saw, we enjoyed
Rhodes old town was amazing, took us 4 hours to walk round, some difficulty for those with mobility issues but non the less we loved it and ended up getting a taxi back as we were knackered . Toilets are few and far between and need to pay! Plenty of eateries, lots of shops. My only niggle was, while there's plenty history to sea there were more shops so took the history away from visit!

Medieval Town full of Monuments - UNESCO site
Old Town, Rhodes, is a beautiful preserved Medieval city -- a must see. everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime. The cobbled street are like mazes, but you can always find your way back. The small inns and shops are beautiful. There are plenty of places to eat and drink and also places just to rest and enjoy the atmosphere of this unique setting. It really is like a film set at times, where you can imagine a time when knights of St. John, and the Knights Templar served and protected the city.

    WARNING: check menu first
Beautiful historical place. Great shops, quirky pretty streets. WARNING: Please ask to see menu when you sit down and order drinks. Some bars will offer you a table and tell you what drinks they have without a menu. Some of what they charged for drinks were a rip off.

    Wonderful!
Absolutely lovely to spend a few hours meandering around the pebbled streets. Several main streets are busy, I suggest closing the guide book & just wander off around the side streets- lovely, a surprise around every corner. Especially in the evenings when shops, restaurants, streets, squares etc are lit up.

Old Town Shops, Restaurants and Walls
Old town is situated within magnificent old castle type walls opposite the harbours. There’s many quality shops and restaurants and also beautifully lit alley ways. It’s a real adventure in majestic surroundings with lovely people. You will need two days if you’d like to adventure all over old town as it’s very large with so many interesting features.

    Wonderful historic old town.
Wonderful walled old medieval city full of narrow cobbled streets and interesting small museums. Only suitable for pedestrians or perhaps a medieval horse! Difficult for anyone with limited mobility.

I think one star is even too high to explain how terrible it was. This restaurant is only recommended if you looking for discusting looks, taste and overcharged drink. No option to pay by card, no receipt... just avoid...

The medieval old walled town of Rhodes is simply breathtaking. We had no idea it was going to be so big and the walls so incredibly thick (12m) and intact in the most part. We spent several hours there and thoroughly enjoyed it. There are different areas within the walls with Turkish and Jewish areas as well as the formal grand buildings in the northern part.

When we left the Palace of the Grand Masters (reviewed separately) we saw an entrance to walk on the walls. A lady was giving out free tickets as only 100 people an hour were allowed. She told us it was a 2km one way walk and we would exit the walls in a completely different place. We thought she was joking as on most city walls you are lucky to get a few hundred metres before there is a gap as they no longer exist. She was not joking though and we were indeed able to walk an incredible 2km around maybe half the perimeter of the old town. The walls are 12m wide so the walk is safe and very impressive with fabulous views.

You could spend hours wandering the streets and alleyways within the old town discovering shops, cafes, restaurants, bars and private homes. It's a maze of delight sights and hard to take in the age of the place given how intact it all still is.

Great, lovely old town.
Walking through small, narrow streets, you feel like walking through a maze of memories.
Stone streets, smiling salesmen, greeting passers-by. There is no pushy.
The view of The Grand Master Palace is breathtaking.
We were only there for one day - it's not enough.
We will definitely come back in winter for the weekend - in September the weather was great but it was too hot for sightseeing.

It’s surprising just how big the old town is, with so many little streets and so much to see. If you manage to park near the harbour entrance where The Colossus once stood, it’s not only free, but a great starting point for walking into the old town. It’s easy to get lost and that’s half the point, just wander and enjoy. The only down side is the constant barrage of people wanting you to eat in their restaurant or if you stop to browse shopping, you are pounced on. It’s annoying and defeats the object as we simply bought from the backstreet shops who give you space and time and don’t do this heavy sell.

Brilliant white washed cobbled streets with the feel of the past everywhere. Just look down the smaller streets as you walk round it is so beautiful. The shops and cafes were reasonably priced meaning you can stop and enjoy without spending a fortune.

On return to the town of Rhodes from the acropolis of Lindos, our bus dropped us off at the Amboise Gate. We walked over the 3 moats and through the town to the Palace of the Grand Masters.
Lynda and I loved Rhodes. One of the best things about our visit was that we stayed overnight and were able to enjoy this wonderful city in the evening. We had beer and snacks at the Archipelagos Bar-Restaurant and watched the crowds pass by. And while we did not do a lot of shopping on this trip, we did find Rhodes to be one of the very best places for that (and we did get a beautiful Turkish rug). We stayed for 2 days at Rhodes but would have gladly made it a week.

We stepped off our cruise ship straight into one of the ten entrances of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are over 200 different streets to get lost in and as we had arrived early we got to see the whole place slowly waking up.
Check out the authentic Greek restaurants and grab a beer in one of the many drinking holes.
Take time to visit the Roloi clock Tower were you pay €5 to enter but this includes a drink of your choice and you get to climb to the highest vantage point of the old town with wonderful vistas.
Many of the shops will offer you a chance to sample their wares with no real pressure to make a purchase.

Rhodes Old town is one the loveliest old towns I have seen - but I want to concencrate that it has two sides. Very touristy areas, in which there are lots of tourist restaurants and boutiques, are pretty lame and trashy, but the quieter parts of the old town are lovely. Visit the side streets on which you find great restaurants, see the historical places like the city walls, wonderful small boutiques like La Magia which sells small items and jewellery made by Greek designers. Just wander there and get lost. Of course you should see the must sights too like Grand master`s palace etc too. I recommend eating crepes with Kinder bueno and white chocolate.

Amazing place! Definitely must visit it if you’re on the island. Magical atmosphere, charming tiny streets full of ancient buildings and history. A lot of small shops, bars and restaurants where you can stop and have some rest or buy some souvenirs. Sure I recommend to be visited in the evening, lights make it look even more magical and the temperature is a bit more livable. High hills are not a good choice :)

Rhodes old town is very old but well preserved. It is one of the biggest old towns I have visited and you can wonder there for hours and hours going through the windy streets and venturing into the gift shops. There are numerous sites of historical value such as the museum, the palace and gallery. You can get a combi ticket for 10 euros for this and it is worth it.
The clock tower is also worth a visit. It is 5 euros and you get a drink from the bar.
