Spectacular, scary for driver and passenger alike, but not to be missed

The D23, which is a loop road, is not spectacular. We drove all the way to the gorge from Nice to do this route and we were very underwhelmed. The river is like a small stream when seen from above. If you have seen the fjords of Norway, there is no point doing this route. In fact, the drive from... More

A not-to-be-missed excursion that will give you some of the best views going of the Verdon gorge, at least without use of ropes, that is! A good way of getting your bearings of the region too. The road is bi-directional for the first bit, then fortunately goes one-way to avoid having to steer too close to the perilous edge! Stop... More

A must see drive when you are in this area. We took the clockwise route from the village of Palud (follow the sign) which went for about 7 km and then there was a "no entry" sign saying that the road was closed. However, we observed numerous local people drive around the sign and continue, so we did too. We... More

Spectacular scenery. With stops it takes a couple of hours. Definitely compares well with anything that the USA has in its National Parks. Definitely the highlight of the holiday. The route is not as scarey as described in the Rough Guide.

This circuit inspires fear and awe in equal measure. Narrow roads, tortuous bends and steep inclines and descents are the order of the day. Every minute is worth the effort. The views are spectacular anevthe sight of soaring eagles is uplifting. Their calls to each other and their apparently effortless flight up out of the canyon is a sight not... More

Me and my partner thought we would check this road out and we were not disappointed. The views were incredibly dramatic, unlike anything I have seen before. There were also lots of large birds of prey circling and occasionally swooping past our heads. If your in this region you should definitely drive up this route.

We rode the route des cretes in the early evening without any campervans, absolutely magnificent. Narrow little circuit, with plenty of parking/viewpoints. Partly one way route ending in the traffic light controlled village of La Palud sur Verdon.

After Grand Canyon I have not expected to be surprised. But this is great place. Trip took us a whole day. We started from Comps sur Artuby on D71 and took it all the way. Route des Cretes is a must. Just be careful as parts are one way so to take it all you need to to start on... More

Amazing view over the gorge and beautiful landscapes. A winding road, a little bit scary but totally worth the trip!

The Route des Cretes with its "Belvederes" is absolutely amazing and offers mesmerizing and unforgetable views on one f the greatest canyons of this planet. If you are lucky you might even be able to observe some climbers performing their vertical ballet!
