We were staying in Taupo and decided to have a day out at Ruapehu. After a morning on the lower slopes and the Silica Rapids walk, we headed up to the ski area to take a trip up to the top of the ski lifts. There has been a recent upgrade to the first lifts and we took in some... More

You won't be disappointed as you will see and play with snow in summer! Yes, taking two ski lifts was worth it.

We drove into the ski fields via National Park and Wakapapa. Tickets upto the cafe involved two chairlifts and the staff were very helpful to guests that did not know how to use the chairlift. There was snow on the ground, blue sky and bad weather on the way. We walked on snow slopes, made snow zen sculptures and had... More

Several of our friends have cycled up Mountain Road but we chose to drive because we were uncertain of both the road and steepness of it - we were pleased we chose to drive but it would have been a great descent on a bicycle.

Took my family here to visit the mountain at Whakapapa, was a 21 deg day, and at the top of the Mountain was about 7 deg so bring warm clothes. We found out that even in Summer the chair lifts take visitors to the cafe at the snow line, thoroughly enjoyed this as my first time in a chair lift,... More

We drove to the top of the road past the Chateau ( a great road ) through an amazing stark landscape! A beautiful fine day but cold - you needed your winter woollies and good footwear. At the top their is a cafe and shop where you get your tickets for a Scenic chair lift ride - in summer! I... More

An extended family trip out. Fantastic views on the car ride up. Excellent value for money for cable car ride and especially when your feeding a few. All staff were helpful and friendly. Might come back in the winter for a ski...

You can hike up the sides and also have a coffee at the cafe. Great time gazing at the dramatic landscape.

Found Mount Ruapehu by accident driving from Roturua to Wellington. Being from Perth Western Australia, the sight of a snow capped mountain (even in late Oct) made us detour to check it out. Couldn't believe our luck as hadn't planned to see snow on our spring trip! All roads and chairlifts were open to our surprise so bought tickets and... More
