Found Mount Ruapehu by accident driving from Roturua to Wellington. Being from Perth Western Australia, the sight of a snow capped mountain (even in late Oct) made us detour to check it out. Couldn't believe our luck as hadn't planned to see snow on our spring trip! All roads and chairlifts were open to our surprise so bought tickets and... More

I lived not far from here for many years, so was a constant visitor, and Mt Ruapehu (and Mt Ngauruhoe and Mt Tongariro sitting alongside) never disappoint. Unless of course it's cloudy and you can't see them! In which case you just have to stay around until the weather improves! The experience differs depending on the season you are visiting,... More

Had a great day. Did not ski but went up to see the scenery and the snow. Was a very great dayout experience.

Love it here - it is a magic place and even better if you ski. Mt Ruapehu is my favourite winter place. Having said that we also come here to tramp and walk in summer - a totally different experience from a winter visit.

Friend and I drove up Mt Ruapehu and found a car park at the end top so we only walked 2 minutes to the ticket office. Based on the weather which was raining most of the time with some breaks in the weather. We originally planned to ski or snowboard but decided against it. We bought the lift ticket which... More

My family and I didn't go skiing however we had an absolute ball playing in the snow and sledding. The bus driver was kind and pulled over and asked if we wanted a ride up the top. The weather hadn't been too good but was lovely while we were up there. We had an absolute ball. Can't wait to go... More

We only spent an afternoon here, it was a beautiful drive to the top. We played in the snow, snow ball fights and I watched my little toddler run and roll in the snow. If we ever visit the North island again we will definitely stay a few nights in town and do some skiing. Thermals and ski jackets definitely... More

Had a beautiful day driving around the Tongariro National Park. Stopped off at Lake Rotoaira then viewed the Chateau Whakapapa before heading up to Knoll Ridge Cafe on the chairlift. The views and sights are amazing. Driving home got some beautiful views of the other mountains and scenery. Absolutely fabulous day out. Will definitely do it again and next time... More

So much to do at Tongaririo National Park. In the winter you have snowboarding or skiing on both sides of the mountain either Whakapapa or Turoa. In the summer there numerous walks around the national park. One of these walks is the Tongaririo crossing. Approximately 19.5kms long. You need to be resonably fit for this walk there are areas that... More
