Beautifle cave, ask for Alex if you can?

Entry is $50 adult, $23 child but we went in a multi-cave combo (aranui and Waitomo glow worm $74 each adult). Photography permitted. We had a brilliant guide, an older gentleman... read more

Entry is $50 adult, $23 child but we went in a multi-cave combo (aranui and Waitomo glow worm $74 each adult). Photography permitted. We had a brilliant guide, an older gentleman called Alex who was clearly passionate about the cave and the area. Alex began his informative tid-bits with plant life on the track before the cave and did point... More

booked as a combo tour ...very visually stunning...physical activity is required if travelling with kids as there are a lot of steps....guide was very good. Lots of photo ops ...good lighting ...and temperature ...starts and ends on time.

Slight up hill walk to the cave entrance and what starts off as being an ok experience gets better with every step you take in. Our guide Eric was excellent and allowed plenty of time for photos. Was fairly busy but unlike Waitomo much better experience. Don't expect to see glow worms here.

Went there as part of a package with the glowworm cage. There are way less tourists and therefore you have much more time to explore the cave and take pictures and ask questions etc. Our tour guide sang a maori song in the cathedral to demonstrate the accoustics which was a really nice touch to the tour!

This is a dry cave, so no glow worms, but still is a beautiful cave. If you're only here for glow worms, though, be forewarned.

We chose this tour with Black water rafting co. As it was a bit shorter than the main cave tour and we had our little kids with us. We combined it with a glow worm tour. We did Aranui first so we hadn't heard the commentary on the glow worm caves beforehand. Unfortunately the tour guide was pretty hopeless on... More

Of all the Waitomo Caves, Aranui has most secrets to yield. The story of its discovery is a romance in itself. No river, so no glowworms. It is a fairly narrow cave, so groups tend to be small, which is a distinct advantage. However, the limestone formations are possibly the best in the area. And if the weather is fine... More

Amazing place to see cave formations up close. So middle earth feeling. Limited numbers to great small group to tour with.

When you first enter Aranui Cave, you're greeted by large wetas (grasshoppers). I'm not a fan of insects, but they stick to the walls so it's not like you have to worry about them hopping onto you. The formations made by the stalactites and stalagmites are interesting. Some even look like the dwarfs from Snow White. Our guide was very... More

Our guided tour stopped by the cave on the way to Aukland and it was well worth it. The guides were very informative and the views throughout were fascinating.
