This was one of the caves in the Triple Caves Combo and the longest tour out of the three. We were able to tour all three in one day easily and glad we did so as they were all quite different from one another. We...More

Quite a massive change since the last time we visited. The whole entrance has been remodeled into a giant spiral. It has been moved away from the Maori burial area. Our guide was friendly and informative, giving us historical and geological insights.

We booked both the ruakuri and the gloworm cave and I have to say that they were both worth the pice that we payed (around 80 nzd). The entrance to this cave is amazing, a huge descend into the underground, surrounded only by feeble lights....More

We explored this cave as part of the 3 cave tour. This is the longest of the caves & it contains glow worms. It takes close to 2hrs from start to finish. Our whole family enjoyed the experience. Our guide was friendly & knowledgable.

I went for this walking tour after my Waitomo glowworm caves adventure. It is a lot of walking in this one (Glowworm is mostly a boat ride) so go with comfortable walking shoes and a jacket as it gets a little cold underground. I believe...More

Hi Meiz, my question is why two nights in Matamata? Doing that drive, both caves and Hobbiton is possible in a day, but it will be a big day and I wouldn't recommend it with kids. I suggest staying in Waitomo or between... More
