This is a point of land that has beautiful beaches and a small hippie comunity. There is now a new visitor center at km 264 1/2 on Ruta 10 where you buy tickets to ride trucks over the dunes to get to the beaches. No vehicles can drive out there...more
.....but I didn't go in. While visiting Cabo Polonio I passed a couple beaches on the way to the lighthouse. Unfortunately I didn't have my swimming gear with me, hence could not go for a dip. Can't really comment on whether the water was lovely...More
It is a very good beach but when we visited there were two dead and half rotten sea lions. I know that it is nature and that life happens that way and it is a protected area but my god the bacteria risk.
Gentl water and soft sand. At night you can also sometimes experience bioluminescence. Paradise! However, sometimes GIANT dead rotting sea lions wash up on shore- Don't get too close! The plus side to dead ocean life: finding skulls on your seashell hunts.
Came there after recommendation from a friend. That place is truly a piece of wonder, a bit too touristic, and yet, amazing sunsets and sunrises. Beautiful beaches! It's a peninsula so you see almost every direction! I only wish it was a bit warmer...
We spent 2 nights here. The ride in was fun going through the dunes. The little village is quaint and artistic...lots of cute little houses with colourful designs. The beach is amazing...just sand and sand forever...walk to the dunes on the beach. The sea lions...More
The water is clear as in a lake and warm as at home. The waves are perfect for surfing or just playing with them, having two different beaches allow you to choose. There you'll have an amazing view of the sunset. A must for every...More

Montevideo is beautiful and the people are friendly- definitely get to the Old City and the Giant Flea Market- Feria De Tristán Narvaja. The public bus system is very easy to take and relatively inexpensive, as are the taxi cabs. A Tour of the Parliament is also a must see.
Cabo Polonio is incredibly beautiful - be prepared for dead sea lion carcases on the beach though. If they are lucky, they will be able to see the luminsecent beach phenonenon, where their footsteps light up at night. It's very cool.
In general, keep your eyes open and be wary- you can generally tell who is looking for vulnerable tourists. Don't be afraid to try any of the food- it's all incredible. And don't be afraid to haggle at the markets.
