Stay in the North Campground
Jun. 2021 • Couples
We had never visited this Provincial campground before, and having as a result we made the mistake of reserving a spot in the South campground (instead of the North campground). Our site was not especially private, dusty and only partially shaded from the hot summer sun. Travelling with our dog, we were dismayed to find that the only real trail in the park ( between the two campgrounds) was closed, and had been for 4 years due to landslides. This trail was the access for the authorized dog beach, so we were pretty put out initially; until we “broke the rules” and walked the trail past the dog beach to the North campground through the damaged trail anyway.

Sites at the North Campground seemed far superior; more shaded, more grass area and much more private. They also seemed less prone to the highway noise than those at the South, but perhaps that was only for sites furthest from the highway.

Both campgrounds apparently use well water that has been subject to a boil water advisory for some 4 years. We had read this on trip advisor in advance and so brought in our own supply of drinking water, but had we not, we would have been unimpressed.

Make sure you don’t arrive after hours. We lost track of time visiting friends outside the park our last night and arrived back at the park at precisely 11:01 pm 1 minute after designated closing time. The gate was locked, but the attendant was still there, and he did open it up for us, with a mild admonishment for being tardy.

Nice sites but awful highway noise pollution
Jun. 2021 • Friends
We stayed in the North campground. Sites are great, spacious with good shade trees and adequate spacing between sites. However....unless you reserve a site closest to the lake you’ll be listening to a lot of highway traffic. Listening to highway traffic while you trying to sleep is no bueno, and it kills the camping serenity. So unless you can handle traffic noise 24/7 or are able to book a site closest to the lake away from the highway I’d give this place a miss....which is too bad because it is a pretty campground.

Review

Having lived in the beautiful Okanagan, we take every opportunity we can to get out and camp, whether for the simple pleasure, or out of necessity for my husbands work. In all our excursions, we have NEVER had an experience like the one we had this past weekend. And after reading many similar reviews of this nature, I thought we’d share ours.
From the first moments there, we felt constantly under attack by the “host” of the campground. We ended up taking on a second site for our adult kids to tent, park a second vehicle. The “host” drives up, asks what’s going on here, what is this about. We replied with saying we decided to take a second site in addition to the original one we chose. While trying to have a very brief chat with our kids on whether they also wanted to stay 3 nights, or perhaps only two, we were interrupted with, “well is anyone gonna pay me or?????” (In a super snarky impatient ignorant tone).
And the duration of our stay continued to get worse. It became blatantly obvious while patrolling the grounds, that he would slow right down while going past our site, waiting/listening/watching for his next perceived “infraction”. And there were many. This “host” looked for any and every chance to come and create hostile confrontations that were rude, disrespectful, judgemental, condescending, and completely unnecessary. The final straw was being told, “excuse me, was I talking to you” when he asked to have a chat with the person who’s responsible for the site, which I WAS that person. He accused us of being “all up in his face” to his superiors who run the park, while we were 10 feet away from him at all times. We HAD paid for 3 nights. But promptly packed up and left after only 2. We have NEVER had a single negative dialogue with any camp host in our past camping trips, and in this case, it was every few hours we were under attack. While we had always wanted to camp at the South site, as we’ve enjoyed the North one in past, we will absolutely never step foot in this campground again. Don’t waste your time or money on this one unless you get some strange enjoyment out of verbal attacks filled with hostility and accusations over things you didn’t even do. Absolute worst encounter EVER. And this person should not be doing a job he clearly doesn’t enjoy.

A wonderful place for a rest stop or a picnic

We love stopping here when traveling north towards Kelowna. It is always clean and just sitting and enjoying the view gives you a real lift. Don’t miss it, also, fall is a lovely time to stop and look at the trees and the wonderful colours.

Unfortunately the staff at the south site lack proper customer service and make you feel very unwelcome if you don’t fit their demographics (seniors in rvs) it is also over priced compared to other province parks in regards to fire wood. Wish I had spent my 70 bucks (2nights) else where. The people running this site are doing are BC Parks a disservice. Sites are better for rvs don’t bother tent camping, view of the lake is lovely but not enough to get over the staff attitude.

Good outdoor camping

This is a BC Provincial park. The sites are spacious and rustic - IE No water, electricity or sewer let alone cable. Good recreation areas and a moderate beach. Some good hiking. Prolem is to get a reservation. Campfires allowed when in season.

Not the quietest place...

We stayed at the South Campground. Well kept place. Nice staff. Great place for families. But if you are looking for a serene and relaxing place to stay by the lake, this isn’t it. The sites aren’t private at all and the noise level in the campground is high.

Amazing stay at Okanagan North campground.

We stayed at the Okanagan North campground for a week last summer and it was incredible. We are already booked to come back again this summer. The park host was very friendly and helpful. The park is beautiful, very clean and well maintained. The sites are well spaced apart, large and most have lake views. We spent alot of time at the beach which was amazing. Everything you need is very close by which is a blessing for a young family! One of the nicest provincal parks in the province!

Staying at this Provincial Park for our 4th time. Excellent staff and facilities. New washrooms and free hot showers. Hiking trails, beautiful lake views, boat ramp, space for campers of all types - from tenting to large rigs. Great place to stop while travelling or for a week or two.
