Travelled on the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway today, what a bargain! For £8.50 each we got a return trip on a narrow gauge train, not a long journey but most impressive, when we got to the end of the line we detrained and went to have a look at the engine as it was negotiating the track ready to pull... A small but interesting narrow gauge railway, museum, miniature railway, shop and cafe. The ticket includes a short journey up the line to a station and museum. At the Museum there is another miniature railway with a trip around the yard. The Museum is child friendly and has several interesting exhibits. The staff were fantastic and very enthusiastic. The shop... More

We really loved our day on the Heritage Railway it seems expensive but is well worth the money spent. The scenery is stunning and the train is facinating hats off to the volunteers who renovated this line it would have been sad not to have this journey in Wales. The food is good and hot and it is a complete day... More

Most reviewers get mixed up with the bigger railway between Porthmadog and Caernarfon. The railway is excellent but short in length. It is nice to have a tour of the loco shed. Look forward to the future when you can change trains at Pen-y-Mount to your bigger neighbour.

A trip on this recently reinstated railway is a definate 'yes' for anyone visiting North Wales. It's an engineering masterpiece and shows what a group of dedicated volunteers can actually achieve when faced with sheds load of red tape and doubters. We travelled first class in the superbly furnished Pullman-style carriage and enjoyed bacon buttes topped off with an ice... More

If you have an hour to kill, this is a great little railway to visit. It is short enough to maintain children's attention with much to interest everyone. Children are involved when the engine runs round the train at the far terminus; there is a ride on a miniature railway at Gelerts Farm and an interactive museum for children and... More

Travelled 1stclass from Caernarfon to porthmadoc.....beautiful scenery and very pleasant journey . Had a snack on board and coffee . Well worth the upgrade to 1st class as the 3rd class seats looked a little uncomfortable for such a long journey

There are two other long steam railways in town, and they are nice too, but they don't let you work the points and signals, or drive a train! The ticket is good value as despite the short route you can ride all day. At Pen-y-chain children are shown the point and signal controls, and allowed to work them under the... More
