A very doable hike for moderately experienced hikers with no technical skills (at least for the lower half of the path). It's more than a nature walk, make sure to have water, some snacks, good footwear, and raingear. Details. Take Rt 13 from Balestrand, headed Hetla/Vallestad. In 45 minutes or so you'll drive over the pass (and impressive look out... More

While we would have liked to hike, the weather was questionable; but the tourist info center advised we still go by driving; it was well worth the trip for both the waterfall and the new lookout platform that has an amazing view down on the switchback highway;

The area is strewn with boulders and rocks, so the trail is challenging in that you do not get any rhythm going. There are many obstacles, but not... More

If you have a car this is a very neat hike/light walk to do. We only walked for about 2 hours but it was all along the water and lots of fast moving water to see.

This hiking stretch is about an hours drive out of Balestrand, and itself offers spectacular scenery. We did this end of May 2014 and we also went to about the halfway point where the modern foot bridge is located, and headed west for about an hour. It is indeed a slow trail if not for the footing, then for the... More

My wife and I hiked part of this trail on second July, 2013. We were thrilled with the amount of scenery and beauty that Norway presented. While the description in the brocure and here read that the trails are easy (and in places they are), that is not the case for the whole of the trail. The terrain varies widely... More
