The house is now a small museum, open to the public where everything has been retained as it was when the artist lived there. The original studio building has been pulled down, but another building has been erected on the same site. Edvard Munch painted many of his masterpieces in asgardstrand, such as The Bridge, Four girls in asgardstrand and The dance of Life. These are now on view in major international art galleries.

Very good guide. She knows a lot about Munchs life ! The house is nice: it looks like Munch left it yesterday.

This small house was the first home of the famous Norwegian painter Munch. Some of his most famous paintings are depicting the local area, including the "girls on the bridge". Well kept and with a lot of original features, including Munch's paint kit and toothbrush! Super views outside (also been painted by him, of course) The tour of the small... More

I randomly bumped into this place while stopping by in Åsgårdstrand. It is quite an interesting place in beautiful surroundings. I had an interesting, guided tour through the house. Although the house is small, the tour was nice, but short and therefore a bit pricy in my opinion.

Åsgårdstrand is a small, supercozy little village at the vest side of the Oslo Fjord. Just a bit more than an hour drive from Oslo. In summer time the pleace is full of life, with boats entering the nice harbour, and lots of tourists, mostly Norwegians. Edvard Munch had his summer cottage here, and some of his most famuos paintings... More

This is a small house, the first owned by Edvard Munch who visited the area for most of his life to paint. He bought this before he was famous and wealthy. The tour guide, a young history student, gave an excellent talk about the house and EM's life. She even made me think a little more about his paintings that... More

The spor is so beautiful, but the tiny little house that served as as studio for Munch is just a pretext. As a matter of fact, his works are better appreciated at the Munch Museum in Oslo. There are other plenty outdoor activities to do in town.

Nothing special, but if you are interested in Munchs life, it is worth visiting. It was here the famous shot was fired, by Tulla Larsen.

I'm not so familiar with Munch but the museum guide introduces his story and house very elaborate. After knowing his thinking and life, I like him more and can understand why the way he painted changed so much. (Tuesday is free to visit)

Asgardstrand is a town in Vestfold, Norway. It is a picturesque town with a quaint harbour and lovely parks. It is situated 100 km south of Oslo on the west coast of the Oslofjord. In this small town you will find art gallerys, a hotel, shops and the home of Eduardo Munch, situated on a slight hill. This is where Munch... More
